Are you even capable of admitting you're wrong?
PigLick on 1/8/2013 at 12:51
no, and once you get over that hurdle, it all gets so much easier.

If this teaches us anything, it's not to default to implying someone has been racist without knowing the full context. It's just generally not wise. It's like that wikipedia guideline: always assume good faith.

Whoa this thread exploded....

Yakoob refused to actually answer my questions and instead gave me copouts about how "putting in black people is being political" with zero context or explanation why. Take by itself his comments are very much emblematic of a known problem in game development re: portrayals of non-whites. If he had just stopped being fucking coy about it and said "it's essentially a white European setting" this wouldn't even have fucking happened.
I never said it would be political but that it might be seen as perpetuating a very certain black stereotype because of the nature of the given character, and our setting/design perfectly explained a homogeneous cast. I did not want to reveal any more spoilers. Frankly, if I came off as "coy" it's because
I dont have to justify myself to you. Not in a "har har my game is AHT" but in SubjEff's "don't pre-emotively assume people are racist" way. I stated the design worked and the setting + references justified a homogeneous cast. Why does it matter if I explicitly say what the setting is or not? Can't you take my word for it? I've posted here long enough.
* And if you want to get really anal
I linked to my devblog which tells you of the North Irish Troubles inspiration within the first two sentences.

Plus if you DID put in a black guy you'd take all the choice out of the game: death is a free entity, and all, but....black dude always dies first. :p
Well, unless he's Cuba Gooding Jr, I guess.

Shit yes, you're right. Well don't I look the racist now. :(
(mind you, I had to watch LA confidential twice before I could distinguish between Spacey and Crowe, so maybe I'm just crap at all faces in general)
