I keep hearing (and reading) about that Fish guy a lot, but still don't know why everyone hates him so much.
So what did he do :p ? Or is it just that he's a pretentious douchebag?
I'll sum him up for you right fast.
Fish: "I think people who like X are the most ignorant people in the world. X isn't art. X's fans need to suck my dick and die of throat syphilis like the sad little fucks they are".
Fans of X: "I think you're a pretentious fuckwit milking what's ultimately nothing more a derivative game with a self aware bog standard post-modern veneer for all the publicity and attention you can get".
Fish: "I HATE YOU ALL! WHY MUST YOU ALWAYS PICK ON ME! YOUR JEERS AND GAPES ARE TEARING ME DOWN EMOTIONALLY! THIS INDUSTRY IS FULL OF HATE AND WORTHLESS PEOPLE AND I'M LEAVING FOREVER".
Basically he starts an argument, writes it off as him being a creative minded free spirit doing what he does, then gets angry at the inevitable internet backlash.
...sad thing is, Fez was pretty fun.

Thanks for that Starker.
Reading over the whole thing, it really sounds like this Marcus Beer guy is a just as big an entitled douchebag as anyone else involved. Fish's response is downright embarassing though, even by his standards.

This kind of thing just makes me think that the Web Comic Wars circa '99 would have been fucking amazing in the age of twitter (and Penny Arcade's Gabe tweets enough regrettable stuff in recent times as it is. But he's relatively retrained these days).
On the plus side they might have been somewhat shorter.

Kinda tempted to side with Blow here. Marcus Beer's basically saying "hey guys, you're breaking our unwritten agreement: we treat your shitty PR releases as if they were actual news and you do the same to our shitty rumour grubbing". Well, I'm very happy they're breaking that agreement! I'd be even happier if journalists do what Marcus suggests and break their side of the bargain as well.
And yes, people / companies have double standards when it comes to their own bloody PR. Surprise!
Fish needs help.

Having seen Marcus Beer's comment in the video I saw nothing in his entire rant that was at all untrue. Could he have said it more diplomatically? Sure, but what's the point? He's clearly just as sick as I am of the indie gaming scene being largely a platform for a bunch of egotistical hipster douchebags to get their brown-haired five o'clock shadow white boy faces in the media as much as possible. Phil Fish was an unprofessional manchild. Jon Blow is a potential serial killer who we're all vaguely fortunate to have pouring his energy into developing games and not, I dunno, practicing knives on cats, but it'd be nice if everyone stopped going to him for opinions on indie gaming. And Jason Rohrer is a fraud whose “games" rely on cheap emotional manipulation and player self-projection as opposed to having any depth, and his latest work is little more than a display of (
http://thiscageisworms.com/2013/07/24/on-why-i-will-never-play-the-castle-doctrine/) privileged white fear. It's time for indie games to go back to being about indie games and not about a few certain "personalities" who have dominated the headlines as much as they can.
