The awkward laugh he gives as Brandt when Bunny says he has to pay $1000 to watch her blow The Dude is one of the great awkward laughs in cinema history. He's contagiously endearing.
So many great parts in so many great movies... What a loss.

So very sad and senseless. I first saw Mr. Hoffman in 'Flawless' with Robert DeNiro and was captivated by Hoffman's performance as the drag queen (DeNiro was the Great DeNiro, as ever). I've since seen Hoffman in so many other movies and in each he's delivered an outstanding performance.
RIP, sir.

Was looking at his list of films and the only one of his I'd seen was Cold Mountain, which was terrible. (pretty sure his role was minor though)
Sad to see him go, though.

Deth, watch Capote to see a great movie that shows off his acting range, and The Big Lebowski because it's goddamn awesome.

He was consistently good even in mediocre films, and in good films he was fantastic. No idea what your taste in films is, dethtoll, but if you like Charlie Kaufman's brand of meta, it's worth checking out Synecdoche, New York, and you should definitely check out the trailers for The Master. If you can accept the style and content, it's a masterclass of fantastic acting, both Hoffman's and Phoenix's.

Man, not having seen The Terminator was bad enough, BUT THIS?
I regularly list The Big Lebowski and Magnolia as my two favourite movies. His parts in both are quite minor, but still, watch them. The other P.T. Anderson movies he shows up in(The Master, Boogie Nights, Punch-Drunk Love) are great as well. As is Flawless, Happiness, Doubt, Almost Famous, and Capote. ADD ALL OF THEM TO YOUR MUST-SEE LIST! DO IT!

I'll always remember him for being in two of my favorite music movies, Almost Famous and Pirate Radio. He seemed like such a versatile actor, it's really a shame it had to end this way. I'll never understand the allure of drugs when it's known how dire the consequences can be. Very sad.
I heard he had 7 days left of filming on the final Hunger Games movie, wonder how they'll handle that.

I can't understand the hate for 'Pirate Radio'. I LOVED 'Pirate Radio'.
As for Hunger Games, he had completed most of his scenes. So, I imagine, if the remaining scenes are necessary, they'll probably CGI the rest like with Oliver Reed's character in 'Gladiator'.

I didn't hate it, but I did think that Pirate Radio (or The Boat That Rocked, as it was billed over here) was a mostly mediocre movie, with the occasional (

Did anyone else here see Before the Devil Knows You're Dead?
