This guy really was an amazing talent. I only recently watched Boogie Nights again. If you want a glimpse of Hoffman's genius, go watch Boogie Nights!

I don't think so.
I can not say I am addicted to anything. I'm lazy. I like to waste my time. I enjoy eating (but you got to eat every day anyway). Is gaming an addiction ? Don't think so, there's been long stretches of time where I didn't play any games, because there weren't any good games.
And then there are 2 steps.
1) Try out something new, 2) get addicted to it.
Even if you are easily addicted to stuff, you will still not be addicted until you try something out the first time. Heck, if you know you are easily addicted, you have to just be extra careful what you get yourself into.

Just look at heroin junkies.
There were a lot around when I was a kid (in the seventies).
Even then, as a young kid, looking at a heroin junkie, did I ever wanna be like them ? Hell no.
On topic: maybe it's time to watch a few more Hoffman movies. I've seen earlier ones, Boogie Nights, Lebowski, Happiness, Magnolia. But really nothing after that. He always seemed like an actor that enjoyed doing as many movies as he could. I rather see movies with actors that I don't know. Or at least, where I don't think "oh, that guy again".

'heroin just takes balls' lol, piggeh is on a roll after yesterdays 'first fuck the devil up the ass. twice.' I'm loving it.
Sad news. You always knew you were in good hands with him, pure class actor. Loved his performances in Capote and Doubt. Someone mentioned 'When the Devil knows your dead', he was incredible in that one too. And that flick where he plays Julianne Moore's brother; I remember their performances but not much of the film, which sums him up in a way.

While I'm not big into the series, the third Mission Impossible film is hugely improved by Hoffman's genuinely sinister villain.

What?
I'm confused.
I agree that not everyone is addicted to something but Hoffman was a long term addict, no? That's a tough thing to get over. If you've even been a little bit used to something (even if it's just going out on a Friday night with your friends for a few drinks regularly) you should have some insight into what its like to have such a physiologically and psychologically altering habit.
