Commandos has only ever been PC/Mac, but yes it's been a few years since the last of them.
(I think there's a comparison there. Commandos is niche(ish).)
Although for me there's no doubt it's going to be a simultaneous release.
But there's a quote by David Byrne.
"No-one goes in a studio to make a bad record"
But a lot of you guys went through all this with TDS.
Me, I bought an Xbox at Cash Converters to play TDS as my lap top wouldn't cope and I was skint.
My missus had just done gone left me and my head was screwed so I spent two weeks spending every moment I wasn't working or smoking dope, living Garrets life.
And TDS was alright on the Xbox. Really, it was.
I sold the Xbox more or less straight after that. (he still owes me £20!!)
I'll buy and play Thief even if the worst horrors emerge.
(I'm not saying TDS was good in comparison to the first two. It made me a little sad.
But as a game, it was ok.)

I'm hoping for PC-based. If they want to do console versions (and you know they will) you'd think they would at least build it first for the people who actually want to buy it and play it. TDS was a huge disappointment. If they muck up #4 the same way they did TDS, I definitely won't be buying it. Fan missions are better!
That being said, a Wii version could be fun - if it was done properly. Which would mean they'd have to develop brand new controllers (motion sensing gloves & booties? VR goggles?). Now for that, I might actually buy a Wii.

i was thinking about this and wouldn't a pc release be advantageous for the producers? i mean the market for pc games is way bigger than for console games. for example here in germany nearly everyone has a pc but only a few have consoles.
so if you have a bigger market you should have bigger sales.
besides i won't spend a load of cash for a console just to play one game. but i will have to buy a new pc someday anyway.
and the problem with internet piracy? make the games available and affordable and people will buy them instead of downloading them. it is that simple.

Unfortunately, many people will download it to see if it's worth their money.
PC is likely, and at least one console. I'm watching how Deus Ex 3 is being handled, wondering just how much of that game's marketing, game-mechanics, aesthetic choices, and choice of platforms will influence Thief 4 to any degree.

I'm really really hoping for it to be PC only. But that's just not realistic these days, especially since it's a pretty big game and a big publisher... especially now since the publisher is... ugh, Square Enix Europe.
I bet that both DX3 and T4 will be a simultaneous launch on PC, 360 and PS3.
I still wish it'd be a PC exclusive though :( One can always hope, I guess..

So some developers have an understanding of their market.
Eidos Montreal take note.
Well, Blizzard has the convenience of being extremely well known and not developing niche single player games.
