Sorry; but we're talking about
167 people here and that's hardly what I would call
'universal'. Perhaps TDS' game ranking would have been more accurate if those who frequent the Thief forums here at TTLG would have been interviewed re: TDS as well.

You note that it says based upon reviews, not based upon fan-boy opinion.
Reviews by gaming press were almost universally positive, as indicated by the Metacritic information you deleted from your quote.

The console tards at the Eidos Forums are actually trying to make the argument that since their own PC is crappy, it means that consoles somehow beat all PCs.
How does one not understand the formula of
Equipment < More Powerful Equipment?

Awwwcrap. Sorry; I just despised TDS so much that I wanted everyone else to despise it as well. :(
I really don't think I could stand it if T4 ended up being a sequel to TDS in every way. I realize life can be cruel, but that would be beyond cruel imho.

Deadly Shadows was a good game. It was fun, and probably better than most of the stuff released these days.
The problem with that is, Thief 1 and 2 were great games. And anytime you compare good to great, the game that's only good is going to take a beating. I think about a 82% describes TDS perfectly. Just above average.

Is that the cradle talking, Dia? ;)

Welllll .... maybe a little ...... :o
But I really detested almost everything else about TDS as well, RT. I've tried to go back & play it again several times and I just get frustrated, disappointed all over again, then downright hissy to the point that I totally lose interest in replaying it and quit. :( Yet I've quite happily replayed TDP and TMA (and a great many of their respective FMs) countless number of times. Go figure.

82 in 1-100 scale is a little bit more than just above average. In fact it's 1.85 times better than average.
And I wouldn't be so sure about the PC.

Dang.
I took too long writing my reply to Dia, so when I previewed this post, almost all my points have been covered in the meantime.
It just remains to take issue with the 167 people, who are a lot fewer since Metacritic and Gamerankings employ many identical sources, but who are critics, more or less professional reviewers with experience analysing good and bad factors in any game. Also, it's a safe bet a lot of the reviewers were familiar and in love with Thief 1 and/or 2.
What I find interesting, however, is the lower score for the Xbox version than for the PC. How come?

Thief 3 would have been a better game, with longer missions, and better textures, if it weren't for the Xbox.
I'm appreciative to John J., who made high res textures, and those who worked on the minimalist project. Thank you.
