Developing games for consoles and making them unintelligent and for a teenage crowd is often supported by the argument that PC games are pirated. Sure, STEAM games can also be cracked - but are so much less than games with different DRM protections.
Release the game through STEAM and you'll get more money and you won't have to develop it for XBOX.
:thumb: i will definitely be purchasing it on Steam, assuming its released there.
But I am also assuming it will be made for the 360 and probably PS3 too... but im ok with that. If its a good game, we want EM to stick around so the more money the better!
We keep losing Thief developers... :(

Um WTF. If it is that important to you, get a life.
That was unnecessary.:erg: Wrong forum?

Agreed. Completely unnecessary. Being annoyed when someone else likes something that you don't is a natural human feeling. At least she's being honest.
Here in the Thief area of TTLG, we generally respect one another.
Please use better tact, especially when speaking to valued and generally friendly members such as Dia.

The issue regarding piracy within the digital market is a long and complicated debate, which doesn't really belong here, in this thread; but I do want to say that it is not as simple as "one illegally downloaded game = the loss of one game in sales." More often than not, if said product wasn't possible to be downloaded illegally, the downloader of said product wouldn't suddenly decide to go out and purchase it legally in the store. The downloader would simply ignore the product, and go on with their life.

Obviously piracy plays a factor when it comes to PC versus console, but it's hardly as big of a problem as the publishers make it out to be. Despite this, the console market is still a lot bigger, and much easier to market a game for, and have it sell adequately. Releasing a game solely for the PC platform is almost always a bad idea (the only genre I can think of that still hasn't conquered the consoles, is RTS), profit-wise, and that Thief IV would be anything else than multi-platform, is highly unlikely to happen. The only thing we can really hope for, is that the PC-version will be developed more or less on its own, and not to be a simple port of the console-version, like TDS was. Few, if any, companies do this nowadays, as it is not financially viable to basically develop two 'different' games at once. The ideal would be to create the game for the PC, and then make the required adjustments later, so that the game works optimally for the console, for that version, while leaving the version optimized for PC intact. (If ISA had been allowed to do this for TDS, the PC-version would've been substantially more to our taste, specifically with the loading zones having been made obsolete.) Bioware claims to have done this with
Dragon Age: Origins - it was developed and finished for the PC first, and then adjusted for a separate console-version afterwards. Like I said, however, this type of development is certainly more costly and time-consuming, which is why most companies nowadays make the game for the console, and then quickly make a port for the PC afterwards.

Not to mention MMO's, which seem to be the biggest cash cows in the PC market these days.
I can see it already: SimThief, where the loot money is spent on buying new clothes and customizing one's hideout. :p

We've clean forgotten about the handheld market. Quick. Let's look at the odds for TH4 arriving on one or more handheld devices.
I've played one demo of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory 3D (I think it was) for J2ME. I found it to be a pretty nice platform stealther, better than TDS Mobile. Reminded me a little of (
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/content/games/yahtzee/artoftheft) Trilby: The Art of Theft. Handheld 3rd person stealth has already been done, and it's fun.
AFAICT (
http://www.eidos.co.uk/mobile/thief/uk/index.html) Thief: Deadly Shadows Mobile Edition only started development after the release of the "real" Deadly Shadows. This might be no exception. Or it might be developing in parallel, as if it were a movie tie-in game. Or it might be dropped.
But Eidos have historically been pretty prolific on the mobile market, haven't they? Or is my impression wrong? Certainly Ubisoft have a slew of titles for their franchises.
So. Nintendo DS or PSP? iPhone/Android/Windows Mobile? A relaunch of
Thief: Constantine's Sword?

LOL. TTLG is TTLG. There is no 'area' immune to an opinion. Besides, I remember when Dia was getting her head spanked in ComChat for being the elipses queen. She knows all to well how this place works, and I wish her no ill will. No one takes this shit personally, and if they do, they need to get a clue.

@gunsmoke- Dude, it's not your opinion that's an issue, it's how you go about saying it, and if you think that what you said was completely acceptable then you need to get a serious reality check.
@The Magpie- Thief on the go, how pretentious can you get! LoL :laff:

PC, 360, PS3.
Standard affair.
And gunsmoke, just re-read the line you typed that people are talking about. DON'T SAY ANYTHING. Just... re-read it. And then return to the discussion and continue talking about the topic of platforms and we'll all have good times.
