So, I bought Anachronox off of GOG for 6 bucks. I tried playing it years ago, but the game bugged out in 1 spot and wasn't beatable on my machine (It was the shadowing mission where you have to stay close but not too close, no matter what I did I'd fail but then I put it on my moms old laptop and beat it immediately, moved my saves back and they soon corrupted and I lost most of my progress).
I feel in a retro mood so I'm giving it another go. Any tips to playing it on a new machine? Patches/upgrades I want? GOG pre-patches some things I think, but I'm sure ttlgers know a few things they don't.

I'm just looking at my setup and I've just got the build46 patch, and it runs fine on my Windows7/64 system.
The story is fun. The worlds are awesomely constructed. The gameplay... I mean it's glorified Final Fantasy which you either like or you don't, but it does the mechanic fine for what it is. I always found it hilarious that your guys & the bad guys would politely line up to get ready for battle, but just the nature of the system.

I've avoided replaying Anachronox because I think the nostalgia would just be too much and I'd shed tears. Waiting for some impressionable youngster to wander along so I can show him the glories of Anachronox.
That sounded way skeezier than I meant it to.

That and a combination of no ending have kept me from replaying the ol' 'nox myself. :(
If Tom Hall finally makes a sequel, I'll fire it up once more.

I think the chance of that ever happening is 5% at best. But a year ago I would have told you 1%, so I guess I'm getting more optimistic about these things.
HEY LOOT DROP GIVE TOM THE DOUGH
Edit: Tom Says: "I know...if I ever get the IP back, would love Anachronox 2.... but sometimes working toward it is a delicate process. You never know."

That's more hope than I would have expected...
I play through the first world or two about once a year. Something about that world & when the music starts up... Really feels like home like few game worlds can pull off.

Haha, this is what I think about when I think about having kids... My chance to pass all these classic games off to the next generation.

And then they say "Can we play Modern Warfare instead".

Anachronox has been on my to-play list since forever, and even more-so since it appeared on GoG. I am waiting for a proper Scifi RPG craving before I dig into it, tho!

If the IP thing weren't a problem, this would be an almost perfect candidate for Kickstarter, wouldn't it?

I don't really see Anachronox being rebooted with a 1-2 million USD budget, though. Crowdfunding only takes you so far, and 3D projects with Anachronox's scope are rather expensive in this day and age.
