I actually like playing thief as an assasin. I often like to take everyone down (KO or kill) and then check everything out at my leisure. No, I don't do the pictures for the project, but I enjoy taking guards/servants down. The only place I draw/drew the line is with the bots, I sometimes can't stand dealing with them, but I do it if I can manage it without taking too much damage.

gaijinalways, it seems that you are like me five years ago, when I also liked to stealth kill all the guards and enemies on my way. At that time I also enjoyed this playing style, but maybe, just maybe, as time goes by, you will end up enjoying ghosting, like me now.
I think this forum now needs new guys like you to post new threads. Most of us here have played Thief for a long time and has discussed everything thoroughly and cannot think of many new things to write.
Do you find all the loots in a mission? Or do you challenge your fastest time? ^_^
Dealing with those robots is quite funny. What weapon do you use against them?

I imagine a person's playing style would be quite a bit different depending on whether one played through the first two games which made killing more difficult.

First time I played through Dark Project, I was a bit of a psychopath. A lot of killing, not a whole lot of looting. And I had a good time with it.
As soon as I started Metal Age, though, I had a lot of difficulty justifying Garrett's indiscriminate slaughter of guards 'just doing their job.' It didn't bother me as much in the first, but then the first has that long phase where all you have to kill are non-humans, and I really didn't enjoy killing in Metal Age, so I started fresh after the first two levels and didn't kill another human 'till the last level.
In Thief 3 though, I don't really mind. I don't know why- I loved the game when I first played it- but now I view it with a lot more detachment than I do the original two. So I don't really mind killing guards- unless I feel I'm cheating myself out of an enjoyable challenge.
Any thoughts?

I also used to play Blackjack-havoc (never liked the killing though)
And sometimes I left certain persons alive conscious but unaware of what had happened (Imagine an unharmed Ramirez in his house full of unconscious guards and servants to know what I mean)
And sometimes getting to know a level is a lot easier when there aren't any guards harassing you.
Although I don't mind playing the assassin; I just want to have only one or two persons as targets. Then it will be great fun ghosting the rest of the level only to kill the target(s)
There are fan made missions (can't remember the name) where you have to kill only 1 person. I don't think that you can do so in the games themselves; although you could take Kidnapping as such a mission.

I started out playing Thief as a thief and tried avoiding killing anyone at all times. But that was when I played on lower difficulty settings. I only play on the most difficult one now which does not allow any killing whatsoever. I might have to give that whole Assassin thing a looksie though, it could be fun and new seeing as I've run out of things to do in Thief, unfortunately.

I haven't played any of the fan missions, that might be a new world for me to explore. As to times and getting all the loot, I don't worry about it, gaming is just a distraction for me,, not an end. I do enjoy trying to find all the rooms, but sometimes I can't remember where all the secrets are:p and can't be bothered to refer to a guide again all the time.
But overall the idea of thief is very appealing, though ghosting I don't think would appeal to me. Maybe has something to do with the other strategy and RPGs I play, I just need to be able to take someone down once in a while.
As to taking down the bots, of course water arrowing them, and sometimes trying to get them to blow themselves up; haven't managed to ever squash one with an elevator or blackjack one yet, but not for lack of trying at times. I forget, can mines take a bot down?

You haven't played any FMs? Man, do YOU have a treat in store! There are hundreds of them and many are better than the OMs. Check out the (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=48202) FM Forum FAQ thread to get all the details on how to get started, where to find the FMs, etc. It's really easy as there are 2 different loaders that you can choose from to automatically install and uninstall the FMs.

I've often wondered if someone would put together a campaign of assassin quests.

Wow, who killed my reply without sending me a private message? :D Someone not capable of distinguishing history and political correctness or however you call that?
