Playing fan missions with a controller has transformed me into a better man - by zajazd

Up till around 2 years ago I was playing with a mouse and keyboard and I was very impatient - as soon as there was backtracking, key hunting, hidden switches etc. I got annoyed quickly and often quit. I missed many good and great missions because of that. Since I started playing with a controller through Xpadder it is a much more relaxed experience for me, laying back in the clubchair saves a lot of energy versus keyboard and mouse for a old(er) man like me. I have been discovering new good and great missions left and right and having a blast with them. I recommend playing with a controller to everyone, setting it up may seem tricky at first but once you get the hang of it you won't want to go back. You can program button combinations if there's not enough single buttons on the controller. I have been playing the original Carmageddon (1997) through Xpadder too, one of my fav games just like Thief, and it's even more fun that it was back in the day.

I was a fan of playing Thief with a controller in years past with another similar program, haven't done it lately though. But yeah, it's a different feel.

I played both thief and thief II with a controller back in the early days. I don't remember what type of game pad I used or how I even had it mapped. Probably started using a keyboard around the time I upgraded from my Voodoo card :D
I am trying to make my life more mobile and may give it a try again. My laptop can definitely handle thief.

I'm currently dealing with thumb tendonitis in my primary mousing hand, so I've also been playing with a controller - but not a normal one:

Given my injury, I'm using my right index finger on the trackpad. It's been an adjustment for sure, but I have been able to play Thief at a time when I otherwise could not.

Huh. I'm interested in trying. Can anyone post their configs so that I get a headstart?

I'm still young and in full capacity of playing, but I'm really happy that you guys are finding solutions to keep playing Thief, and video games in general :)

Obviously the left stick should be WASD and the right should be for looking around, but the rest is your preference. I use the Start button for main menu and the Right trigger for action, but the rest of my config is random.

I'm not
that old (turning 41 at the end of this year). I switched to playing with a controller in around 2010 the games that natively supported it, but for the longest time I didn't use controller emulators since I had bad first impression with them - not all games worked with them, there was lag etc. Now Xpadder works great for me. I have always been a low energy person and I find sitting by mouse and keyboard tiring, especially after a 8 hour workday by pc.
