Glad you are liking Thief II. And I agree about Markham's Isle. It has a great atmosphere that is enhanced by the audio track.

One of the great pieces of atmosphere music IMO. Was disappointed that the Soundtrack for Thief II offered by GOG did not feature it.
I did like the "haunt" in the Isle. I think it was meant to be the ghost of Markham? Or maybe just the guardian of the treasure. It's been a while.

I'm now at the endgame. My impressions of what came before:
Kidnap: A fun enough mission. Not memorable, or particularly interesting, but solid. I don't know, it didn't really grab me. It was fun while I was playing it, I suppose. KOing Cavador was a bitch - I ended up accidentally getting heard by everyone in the first site on his route and blackjacked all of them except the armoured bodyguard - he walked into a gas mine. On the whole, it felt very much like one of the tomb-raid-y missions of the first game - I'll bet the familiar setting has something to do with that - rather than Thief 2's B&E-style mansion robberies. An average mission.
Casing the Joint / Masks: Counting these two as a single mission because ... they're the same exact map. I'm sick of Gervaisius' mansion now. Everything looks so same-y. The hallways all seem copy-pasted, and the floors are all practically the same layout too. CtJ seems very superfluous, and while the reasoning behind the repeated map is OK, in practice, it's annoying as hell. The restrictions on CtJ frustrated me SO much. It's easily the weakest mission in the game. Masks is OK - you're free to blackjack and alert the guards, the maps are more populated, and there's some mechs too. The haunted library is easily my favourite part of the mission, mainly for the fun side-plot and the spookiness of the place. I was constantly on edge, and the first time I stepped in I had no idea what was going on and it just creeped me out. The best part of an otherwise mediocre pair of maps.
All that's left now is to take care of Karras.
