Playing through Thief 2 for the first time, and i'm having a WTF moment - by Lovecraftian

Apologies if there has been other topics on ths before.
So i'm playing through Thief 2 for the first time, after completing TDP and i'm loving every moment of it. :)
I'm playing on hard, and i'm coping pretty well. The only really hard level for me so far has been the one with the bank.
Now i'm on Life of the Party, IMO one of the greatest video game levels ever (And i thought nothing could beat Shipping and Receiving and Blackmail!) and i'm at the Mechanist tower.
So right after i've read the New Scripture of the Master Builder, this golden boy thing appears from nowhere. I can't seem to hurt it at all and all it does is run away or follow me, so i've locked the little wierdo in a room somewhere.
Anyway, WTF is the deal with that? Is it a Cyborg or just a Robot or what? Scared me to death, appearing from nowhere. And even the Apparitions, haunts and Zombies don't phase me.
Did the Developers insert it just to freak out the player?
P.S. I'm glad i stumbled across these forums. Nice to be here. :)

Just ignore it. It won't hurt you, it will just run away. You can't kill or destroy it.
Not much is know about him, but another forum member may be able to explain how he ended up in the level better than I can.
Also, welcome to the forums. :D

Welcome to the fold. LoTP, best level in T2. That is the *Golden Child.* A creation of Karas. He is harmless, there have been threads about ghosting him, trying to get around him undetected. It can be done. Too bad you can't steal him, he is made of gold right.

Yeah; I had the same reaction the first time I got to that point in 'Life'. I tried bopping the little thing on the head, to no avail. It doggedly followed me, making its weird little noises til I did the same as you LC; I just locked it in a room. There's an FM that features that little nuisance (can't remember the name of the FM, but I remember I liked it a lot) and if you were really lucky you could sneak through the room where it was without alerting it, or just rush through and try to lock it in there.
I had the impression that the little creature was just another of Karras' sad, mad experiments, using a very young servant-child as the subject.
And welcome to TTLG, btw! :thumb:

Yes.
Welcome to the Luxurious Fabulous TTLG Message Boards. :)

In the first release of the game, the cherub was destroyable. Prima's walkthrough even tells you where to set a mine before you read the book to destroy the thing.
Locking it in a room is about all you can do.
And yes, welcome!

Just wondering: Could you DromEd it so it's vulnerable to damage or no?

Yes you can. You can set how many hit points, too. And you could turn ALL the AI into golden children.
The horror!

Welcome to TTLG, taffer!
If you like Life of the Party, be sure to dig up the original Thief II demo mission, "The Unwelcome Guest". It is both similar and very different from LotP - it uses a modified version of the same "rooftop" map, except much larger, and arranged differently. The tower is very different also.
Many fans actually like it more than the LotP mission. In any case, it is a great mission, and will feel familiar yet completely different from LotP.
I think but am not certain that the following is a good link to it:
(
http://thiefmissions.com/demos/thief2demo.exe) http://thiefmissions.com/demos/thief2demo.exe (131MB).
The site in the link is (
http://thiefmissions.com/) thiefmissions.com: Cheap Thief Missions, an excellent though dormant fan mission download site.
