I hate rabid football fandom. I have friends who are so into it if you call them when a match is on they answer the phone and say "match is on" and cut you off, without knowing what you're calling about. Those guys who quote stats and talk about players and transfers and managers and what is essentially the meta-game. Those guys who call other fans "plastic" because despite supporting the same team you don't know the back story of every player and their current "form".
I also think that major sports stars get paid far, far too much. I'm all for rewarding them handsomely, but tens of thousands a week is silly.
Corruption anywhere is a bad thing, sports or not.
But to hate on the World Cup because you don't like sports is misguided at best. There are worse things to be interested in tbh. I really like the World Cup, I really like the Olympics and I really like tennis. I'm off to some pre-Wimbledon tournament today in fact.
Professional sports inspires some people to play sport and that is a very, very good thing. The local tennis courts always get full during Wimbledon. A lot of people who like tennis, football or cricket (that I know) also play their chosen sport. Just as entertainment it's great fun too. Being invested in a team and going to see them play with your likeminded friends is great fun that is only spoilt if your friends become rabid fans.
The OP seems to have particular hate for sport, perhaps because he doesn't like playing them (as admitted to itt). If you don't like being active I think you'll kind of miss out on what is nice about watching other people being active. If you've never played a tennis match that was an epic event for yourself you're less likely to enjoy watching others do the same.
Professional sports have become over commercialised. That's a problem with human beings, not a problem with professional sports.

blacks especially would often rather listen to something by a person who looks like them than yet another pampered white boy talking about relationships.
This is nonsense. Firstly you're saying black people select the music they listen to based entirely on the colour of the person making/singing it. That's crazy and no less racist than anything that Tony would say. Secondly, that suggests that there are only two types of music.
How many black people have you actually met or been friends with?

More than you I bet, and yes I say that knowing full well you spent 18 years in Africa. Also, didn't I have you banned from this thread for talking about me as if my dislike of sport invalidates my opinion about sports?
Here's a fact: people are naturally predisposed to like things that are familiar and easy to understand. This is not that difficult to comprehend. I have a friend who lives in Oakland. Guess what every black person she's ever met in that city listens to? I live in Cincinnati, which is a very heavily mixed town. Guess what most black people in this town listen to? Can you guess what white people in Nashville tend to listen to? How about the Toronto music scene?

I'm well aware that certain people are more likely to listen to certain types of music. Years in Africa proved that. I'm not disagreeing with you on that, only on your reasons for it.

Thread cleaned up and warnings given. I hate having to delete posts and threads like this don't have to descend into yet another bickering match so keep the personal arguments to a minimum. Thanks.

Am I not supposed to communicate with dethtoll now?
I feel that even a legit post questioning something is being reacted to in a personal manner every time.
Yeah my first post itt was a troll, but it was TIC as it's clearly ott nonsense.

Ironic shitposting is still shitposting, which is why I reported it.
I'm angry (mostly not at you this time) and going to bed. I'll tackle your actual post-derail post tomorrow, pinky promise.

Not sure what the problem is. Only one bit of one of your posts was removed and that was because it referred to posts that have been cleaned up. Of course you can communicate with dethtoll or whoever else you feel like, just as you (and anyone else) can post in any open thread.

Yeah that was bad of me. I'm sorry. I apologise. I was in a mischievous mood and it was mean.

No other single form of entertainment has its claws so deeply embedded in our education system. Until you guys grasp the implications of that, you still don't understand and are not responding to the OP.

henke is spot on, as annoying and culturally crippling as they may be, without advertising we wouldnt have any free stuff like tv and internet.
It's not free.
Something I learned from the Americans: There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.
We all pay through the hidden 10% tax of marketing on everything. Products could be cheaper if there would be no need for advertisements. You could claim that consumers should buy stuff from companies that do no advertisements. But that's gonna be pretty hard in a lot of cases. They all do it.
I could actually argue that advertisements on the Internet are a negative force for progress. Basically because of advertisements, it appears that websites and services are free. And therefor, if there would be another website offering a similar service, but without advertisements but for a small price, that website would be at a disadvantage. Because of adblockers. Because we don't have proper microtransactions on the net (thanks to shitty creditcard companies with their 18th century technologies). Right now, the only viable business model for new websites is to give away services for free, and hope to make some money via advertisements. That could be different.
I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks per year for the websites I visit frequently. Like TTLG. Given a few basic prerequisites. Low price (at most a few bucks per year). Easy payment. Not depending on credit cards (I don't have one, don't need one, don't want one). Pay per month, not per year. No automatic extensions. Unfortunately, that is never the case.
I've been watching NBA basketball over the last 2 months. I've been watching the playoffs in 2013 and 2012 too. I have to download the games, as there are no other ways for me to watch them, where I live. Pretty convenient, I can watch them the next day, at a time that is convenient. No commercials (the uploaders filter those out). Last week I've watched the games via live streaming on the web. A copy of the NBC or ESPN or whatever feed. Full of commercials. After 2 hours, it almost makes me puke to hear and see that crap over and over again. How much time in a lifetime is wasted by watching that useless crap ?
