So I decided to play my own fan missions to see if I want to make another one and I wanted to run through just to see how many things I could improve on (quite a few in my case). While playing I got killed several times by my own traps in both missions.... :laff:

Interesting topic :D . Can't wait for more replies. I wonder if DrK gets scared while playing Rocksbourg 3 :p

I hate playing my own missions, especially when finding something I know should've been done better. The only time I even look at the mission is to find hints people sometimes ask for, or to see how I did something regarding the scripting of the level.

Nah, I'm not, because I know precisely what happens and what awaits me.
However while building my missions, especially a better tomorrow, at some points I had chills down my spine because of the ambient sounds and the AIs. They worked so well, sometimes they caught me by surprise or had unexpected results, it was creepy even for me, and that's how I knew it was scary enough. :cheeky:
But yeah, like xorak I'm not fond of playing my missions because I know them too well and I only look at the flaws. The only ones I enjoy playing are Double or quits, because I'm proud of what I made in 48h, and a better tomorrow, because it's still tense enough and with random spawns and patrols it can become challenging.

I occasionally like going back to play some of my old missions for two reasons - to remind myself how I set something up, and for ego massaging as I realise I could do it better now. :cheeky:

After waiting what I considered to be enough time to mostly forget the details of my 2 FMs, I have played them both twice now. Honestly, with the exception of a few of the required cave-section jumps, I liked them better than most other FMs. But I can't say I'm really surprised by that since I very purposefully included as much of the kinds of things I like and tried very hard to exclude things I don't like in FMs.
I'd actually be surprised if other authors don't like to play their own FMs. Why would you spend all that time, energy, sweat, frustration, fist-shaking, keyboard-banging and Dromed-cursing to create something you don't like? I can understand seeing things that you wish you'd done better, but that seems to me to be only a minor distraction.

I can speak for others, but I know when I finally finished Bad Hangover, I wanted nothing to do with it ever again. I haven't played it or loaded it up into Dromed since.

I only replayed Rowena's Curse once, and I found it boring as hell....:o
Maybe it's because I play my missions ad nauseam before releasing them, and as DrK said, I know them too well to find them interesting. But I frequently load them in Dromed to see how I did things, since I tend to forget everything.

It's been what...six years since my last release? Lemme check...hold on..
Yeah '08.
Anyhoo, I've played them all a few times after release. Some things really made me cringe but I think I did a few things correctly and came up with some original and fun stuff. Like my first mission where I gave Garrett a secret hide-out...you just don't see that often if ever. I can't remember another instance of it. Then there was the toy closet and trophy case. Yeah man, good stuff there.
Then there was the brush work at grid #13 which doesn't allow for much detail...and textures that were badly aligned (I built most of the mission before I learned that you could move the textures. :o ) and stupid long tunnels that only serve to connect stuff but had no logical purpose other than that. Doors that translate into the ground thus keeping AI from wanting to cross them. Switches hidden so well you want to strangle the moron who put them there.
Oh well. You get what you pay for right! :p

I usually get so sick playing my maps over and over again I have to wait a very long time before playing them again after I release them.
