So yeah, you know, its likely that Sony are announcing the PS4 today at 11pm GMT, 6PM ET (whatever that means).

I'm looking forward to it because I think they might actually do something interesting with the game delivery model - Sony have bought Gaikai, a game streaming service, and it looks like we will get combination of native running games and streamed content.
And all the other stuff. We shall see!

I barely use my seventh generation consoles, so I'm probably gonna pass on this new gen, at least until they're pretty cheap.

I remember when PS3 came out and they made it purposefully difficult to develop for claiming how it's going to take 10+ years to unleash its full potential and how it's going last forever and ... yea :p

Which, as I recall, was suspiciously similar to their approach on the PS2. The emotion engine will be around forever and all that.

More precisely, Kutaragi said Sony was "looking at a life cycle of 10 years with the PlayStation 3" which, in actuality, isn't so far from the truth.

I don't think it's a matter of them making it difficult
on purpose, but more that the Cell spec was exotic and difficult to program for. Those SPUs on the Cell needed to pick up the RSX's slack because it had comparatively low bandwidth and speed when put up against the 360's GPU. Getting a CPU to augment a GPU's core functionality was odd then, and remains odd today; Sony's never been a software development-oriented company either, so it's a good bet they weren't as capable as MS when it came to putting together easily understandable documentation and programming SDKs for the PS3 (and weren't for the PS2, either).

Thanks to Sony and their marketing department - to me, this the image I get whenever someone mentions PlayStation:

Well, it is the PS4 alright so all speculation can be put to rest.
I do like that pic Ulu, but my PS3 experience is what has informed what I think when I hear PlayStation.
They're saying it has PC Architecture, but "Supercharged"
X86 CPU, 8GB Unified Memory, a "PC" GPU.
Dual Shock 4 looks nice.
