It's been a couple of years though so it may be time to give it another shot. I didn't realize there was some type of god code for it. I just may use that at the end, even though I've never used any kind of cheats before.
Come on, it's a
survival game. You shouldn't use god mode to play it, otherwise you'll lost most of enjoyment. It's surely hard, but true survival game should be hard. Just learn your enemies and environment carefully and you'll prevail.

The only fan patch that I know of only makes the game easier, it doesn't fix any bugs AFAIK.
I surely never meant to imply that. It is, essentially, a really suped-up trainer.

All I remember was trying that last "boss" fight, (and I fucking hate boss fights) over and over and over. I do agree about losing the enjoyment by using cheats, and I've never used one in any game, but it got to the point where is was pissing me off to no end and didn't seem worth it at the time. Worst part was I found it excellent prior to that. It's got pretty much everything I like in a game. But oh no, lets put a big bad boss that's nearly impossible to defeat right at the end.
Meh. Maybe I'll will give it another go.

It's not really a fight either. It's more of a puzzle with a thematically clever solution (which I looked at a walkthough for, sad to say). Slightly disappointing as an ending, but it's still a cool game on the whole I think.

Well I'm stuck again. I'm in the Marsh Refinery Vats and Mr. Marsh just unleashed a slimy Shoggoth at me. I have reached the vats control panel on the lower platform and I'm suposed to use it to drive the Shoggoth to the next area. Problem is that the vats control button doesn't seem to work, it doesn't highlight anyway and I can't push it. I have to be quick about it as Shoggoth's tentacle attacks me as soon as I'm next to the control panel.
Geee.

I had problems with the button too. Stay as close to it as you can and center it on the screen, you'll eventually press it ;)

Right, I may as well start petting with Shoggot's tentacle when I'm at it... maybe at 50th attempt I'll do it, only if it wasn't such a long way from the last save point. Whew, I didn't play such difficult thing in a long time. Good to know somebody's still making a real hardcore.

It is the toughest game I have ever played.

How many of you are playing this for the eat-sleep-game podcast? I've been meaning to play it for awhile, and this was a perfect opportunity.
gunsmoke on 19/2/2009 at 18:06
Hey, thanks for the announcement. I just listened to that in its entirety, and it is a pretty nice tear-down of the game's first levels. Inspired me to install and play until the Escape from the Fishman (or FishFuckers as they refer to them in the podcast, lol). Only reason I quit...a crash to desktop.
I am using the DCotE fan patch. I am not cheating, I just wanted to use the skip all the intro vids feature. I am playing on default difficulty.
BR#s...where are you in the game, now?
