I really liked what I played of this. Although that fucking bit on the back of the truck made me want to commit seppuku. I passed it eventually, only for it to reward me with a crash IMMEDIATELY after I landed. The next time out of a hundred that I made it through alive it crashed in the exact same place. I couldn't bear to ever launch the game again after that.

I'm almost at the end in the undersea temple. Looks like I finish it during the weekend. The only technical issue I have is that rarely it crashes after I save game and it doesn't support multitasking properly, because when minimized, it crashes too, but overall it doesn't crash more often that many other newer games. For the most part it's intuitive but occasionally I have to peek into walkthrough, when I'm too lazy to figure out some puzzles. Private Investigator difficulty, but no cheating. Good stuff, I really like the Thieflike level design, dramatic pacing, challenges and insanity effects, but I'm not sure if I want to replay this horror (literally both genre-wise and gameplay-wise) again. :laff: Besides that I also started to play Mass Effect for the first time and it's drawing my attention more and more.

I know Mass Effect has pulled you in, but please try to finish this. I don't care if you shelve it for eternity afterwards, just try to get through it once for the sake of the experience.

You bet, I wouldn't leave this gem if I'm this far.

After a three-week absence (blame STALKER: Clear Sky) I *thought* I had stumbled upon a game-breaking bug in Call of Cthulhu. In The March Refinery (chapter 7), I had just spun the pressure release valve but couldn't find my way out the rooms! At least FOUR sets of doors visible but all locked, including the one I used to enter this area.
I consulted several walkthroughs and they all said the same thing -- "Exit via the bolted double-doors in the valve room." … :weird: … but, but, the doors are BOLTED! Was I suppose to unlock them from the other side before entering? Am I missing a key? Am I now stuck?
Eventually, I stumbled upon info about latching shut doors to slow down enemies in pursuit … I had completely forgotten about the door LATCHES!

Lol, little shit like that in adventure games tends to be par for the course.

Yes, sometimes the latches are difficult to notice...
Anyways, Done and Done! The boss fights with polyps were challenging, but somehow killing the very final boss (Hydra?) wasn't much challenging. Although the final speedy departure from the underwater temple was terrific!
Great depressive adventure. Some gameplay elements would deserve more polishing, but fortunately they cause more challenges and aren't very annoying. Pity the developing studio is gone... well, this isn't a mainstream blockbuster.
Who knows, maybe I'll replay it sometimes in the future when I feel like it. As I look at the final statistics, I see I have omitted 5 percent of the game. Perhaps I missed one Mythos book somewhere? Rank E only???

Nice! Gotta love the 'clinically insane' and 'casual' drug use lines.
Rogue Keeper on 23/2/2009 at 11:44
But I wonder if I can reach better mental condition than Clinically Insane, as at the end you always end insane. And many stressful situations call out insanity in the character one way or another.
