Hi guys,
Great forum, first time here. Love the Thief series and just got TDS for the first time today! Great how the community is still going!
My problem is a kind of "stutter" during the game and even during the menus. I've tried all the tweaks and checks I can find, from turning off the "fog" in the menus, to disabling music, to turning off the BodyAwareness flag... but nothing seems ot help.
It's doesn't *feel* like an FPS issue, as the stutter is not constant.. that is, it's always there, but there are like 10 smooth frames for each stutter frame. So it's like something else is happening that's slowing it down at distinct intervals.
I've turned off all programs in the background, firewall off, a/virus off, etc. Can't seem to get rid of it! I wanna play but this is awful.
Oh and of course I tried a lower res, 800x600 with low textures, etc... still does it!
Does anyone know what this is? I just can't track it down. :(

Sounds familiar, I believe I had a similair problem quite a while ago. Unfortunatly, I can't remember what I did to fix it (I know I downloaded a TON of drivers, 98% of which I probably didn't need). Sorry I can't be of more help.

Do you have a Dual Core or Dual CPU System? I experienced the same problem with TDS. By limiting the t3.exe and the T3Main.exe to one and the same CPU while in the Menu and with no Game started/loaded yet I was able to contain that problem to a reasonable degree. It still stutters, but only ocassionally, mostly when dialouges are triggerd. It doesn't hurt there, since you will stop and listen anyway.
To limit the used CPU open the Task Manager, right click each t3.exe and T3Main.exe, the Menu Point is something with "processor affinity" in an english Windows version; it's definitely the last entry in all languages.
If you are working as normal user, but started TDS with Admin you also need the Task Manager to be started as Admin so that this works.
Im thinking of writing a small wrapper app, to start TDS through this, so that the CPU affinity is already set at startup. Problem is just, that the last time I coded something advanced for windows was 3 years ago, I'm doning mostly Linux stuff (but this is advanced :cheeky: )

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try the processor thing, but I've got the one cpu. :)

Are you using an Audigy sound card? I had the same problem with other games as well because of my SoundBlaster Live card. When I changed to an Audigy 2 the stuttering went away.

Thanks... nup, I have onboard Soundmax sound (simple AC3 compat) but I've tried turning the sound off completely in the config, which should isolate any sound-related problems, but the visual stutter is still there. Very weird stuff.
