I got the installation to finish successfully, but then when I ran the game, and was about to enter into Training, the game kicks me out to the desktop and then a Critical Error message appears reading: "ReadFile failed: count=1024 Length=32467 Error=The operation completed successfully. History: ULinkerLoad::Serialize <- TArray<< <- TLazy Array::Load <- TLazy Array<< <- FMipmap<< <- SerializeMips <- UTexture:: Seriealize <- LoadObject <-{Texture Unatco.Misc.un_gunpster2 1618994/4406928 1618574 43895} <-UlinkerLoad::Preload <- Preloadobjects <- UObject::Endload <- UObject::StaticLoadObject <- {Engine.Level.None.MyLevel 00_Training} <- LoadLevel <- UGameEngine::LoadMap <- LoadUrl <- UGameEngine::Browse <- ClientTravel <- UGameEngine::Tick <-XGameEngineExt::Tick <- UpdateWorld <- MainLoop" Any idea what this is? What could be causing my crash to the desktop?

Looks like you've got a lot of missing files. Try reinstalling, lots of people seem to have missing files.
Some people have had better success copying the CD to the hard drive and installing it from there.
I am barely computer literate, I could be wasting your time.

Hi neovsmatrix...
A "ulinkerload" error in Deus Ex usually means either the Install did not go right or a video-driver related issue.
Make *sure* you have downlaoded and installed either the Single or Multiplayer Patch :

...unless you have the Game of the Year Edition.
Make *sure* you have Correctly Installed the Current Drivers (DirectX 7 compatible or Higher) for your Video card.
Check dxdiag (Start>Run>dxdiag>OK) under Display...what does it say your video card is and what does it list for Approximate Total Memory and Version of driver?
Double check that you have the current driver for it.

That's not a lot of missing files, that's the call stack for the game. Basically it tells you what piece of code the game is currently in that caused the crash, which is absolutely of no benefit to the average user and looks REALLY scary :D That's a "feature" of unreal engine crashes. I'd say CatsClaw has some pretty good advice and you could always try reinstalling it as well (and I mean uninstall and install, not the reinstall option from the intro screen).
