If they're going to do it, it should be outside the game itself, like in a corner on the menu screen or something. Like tv, ads should go in between the content, not in it.
Or another way to say it: they are something you should bear with to get to the content (that it's paying for), not something you should enjoy as part of the content itself.

Adverts in a sports game, where there are normally adverts in real life (side of the pitch, etc) is fine I think.
In anything which isn't a sports game however, its breaking the 4th wall too much imho.

This is Obama's message he's a modern guy who acknowledges gaming as a legitimate hobby and educative potential
Since when advertisement has anything to do with such qualities?

Since clients started increasingly taking videogames seriously as a medium for their promotion.

Obama's the guy who basically said gamers were a bunch of underachievers responsible for the poor performance of schools.

not getting it
You fail to understand the difference between a regular advertisement and a political advertisement, which is the whole crux of this issue.

That's a quitemisleading interpretation of what he actually said. He said :
Quote:
We're going to have to parent better, and turn off the television set, and put the video games away, and instill a sense of excellence in our children, and that's going to take some time.
...which is simply an appeal on parents to raise the children better, pay more attention to them instead of letting them to be educated by massmedia ajnd electronic entertainment. Because, let's face it, there are lots of children whom parents don't pay enough attention to, don't care enough how they are doing in the school if they visit school at all. It just can't be interpreted that he considers all 9 - 99 years old gamers as undereducated retardos or something. How can somebody take this as an offense of the whole gaming community? Who does, perhaps gives his position a good point.

Unfortunately when was the last time a politician- any politician- saw videogames as anything more than Pacman with decapitations?
