And at least 5 people so far don't want rope arrows?
Dammit, somebody get the shotguns... console tards walk among us.
Scratch that, someone doesn't even want the water, fire, moss or gas arrows. What's that all about. :wot:
Don't get me wrong, rope arrows are a must too.

I'm one of these evil beings and voted only for blackjack and water arrows. While I do like rope arrows, I'd also be happy with something else, as long as it's good. Probably I could go also without water arrows if you had another possibility to put out fires and candles.

If it was in Thief 1, it should be in Thief 4. The gameplay options of the original games are what makes them into Thief.

I really prefer the sword over the dagger. Tough in thief, it is incredibly messy killing people, just like real life..., i mean the guards screams of death seemed reallllly painful, its presence made me feel a better thief.
. I usually ghosted trough the levels but sometimes ( especially in thief1), i just snapped and backstabed or fought several haunts just for the fun of it, i leaved the human guards alone.( insert mean face of garret running away after dispatching two zombies:grr:) ( and iam a believer that garret is quite a swordsman... makes him even a better thief, not overly specialized in stealth).

Wow, do you people seriously prefer the sword rather than the dagger?
I quite liked the DS change from the sword to the dagger. It's more thief-like to carry a small, concealable blade, than a great, hulking sword.
And it's not like Garrett uses it much anyway, backstabs at most, but he should usually avoid blade combat.
Each to their own, right? :weird:
I think a lot of Taffers who started with TDP &TMA (and whom played countless number of FMs before TDS was released) were more used to the sword; also, TDS wasn't the greatest when it came to gameplay. No matter how careful one tried to be or how often one practiced, using the blackjack and/or dagger in TDS was
seriously awkward more often than not.
In TDP & TMA it would have been pathetically tragic if Garrett had tried to use a dagger to confront several zombies, guards, or Citywatch who were advancing on him. If the 'enemy' AI carries swords not daggers it makes sense that Garrett be armed with a sword as well. (Those undead have long arms!)
It's a matter of preference.

You know... I was voting for sword until I played COSAS2.....
BTW, why no Vine Arrow?....I know V's dead, but devs can find some deus ex machina to put it back, no puns intended....

The solution is simple:
Bring Viki back!

How exactly? The only thing "thief-like" is the act of theft. I'm at a loss to explain the prevalence of this connection between thieves and daggers in people's minds, except as a result of media conditioning (D&D Rogues, etc).
What is the point of concealment? To deceive those who
look at you into believing you are unarmed. It may allow an assassin to avoid betraying deadly intent where a visible weapon might cause concern, or where weapons are prohibited. But in Thief, the number one goal is to
not be seen.

Garrett carries a normal one hand sword which is neither great, nor hulking.

If you can backstab, you can blackjack. If you've been spotted, run. If you've run into a dead end with two guards on your tail blocking escape, what use is a dagger? Draw your sword and defend yourself until a guard steps just enough to let you through! This situation
actually happens in-game and allows the player to recover (even on expert) from a mistake rather than quickload at the first sign of trouble.
Granted, you can also block with the blackjack - but that makes even less sense than being able to block with a dagger.
The point is, reasonably short swords are useful in both offense and
defense while the same cannot be said of a dagger (or blackjack). This is critical for those who like to ironman missions, like me.

I voted for everything, save the last 4 potions (come on, people, they're like cheats !). The health potion is the only one you need.

I still want to know why the blade, the length, the weight, and all that matters any, when he's an overloaded, 300 lbs., walking armory, and most of what he carries is overlarge and bulky. Why is the sword getting all this undue blame?
The blade's size, shape, name, etc,, does not matter as much as usefulness. If it's only for killing and not a tool for many non-lethal things, then I don't want it.
How about his ginormous loot bag, let alone his quiver of infinite arrows and bow that never snags or hinders at all, his many pockets of grapefruit-sized flashbombs, his lockpicks, his keys, his explosive mines and the occasional sunburst, his flash- and gas-mines, his huge gasbombs, his watermelon-sized frogbeast eggs, his potions, his crystals, his vials and flasks, his scouting orbs, scrolls, parchments, maps (really old ones, too), Talismans, big ol' keys made of rock, Sentients, a viktrola once...?
So yeah, most of this in one haul (minus Mynell's recipe, and at least the big crate was shipped to his fence for him):
