Well finally we reach some sort of agreement. I'm all for including a real sword (and not just the infamous small sword of RPGistan) when it's about those outdoor or underground missions with lots of space and monsters. But that's where the thief isn't doing his usual thief business. Plus, I already mentioned that the TDS dagger could have been implemented in a better way, but honestly I had no problems taking down AIs with it when they discovered me. Heck, my cop-moderate at Eidos made a game of backstabbing Cradle puppets instead of holywaterboarding them. The blackjack argument could be applied to the sword as well, it's not like those stealthy Oberhau attacks were an unsung phenomenon.
May I ask now if you could follow my other arguments then one way or another? :p

How did you manage that without getting hit? The enemies swing their swords with deadly accuracy and super-fast moves, and there's only that weird swing from right to left that you can do with the pathetic little knife.

Duck down, run around them, stab all the time. Wasn't worse than the T1/2 sword, unless of course you were unable to get close which... isn't an issue.

And what would you do with a dagger anyway? ... Stealth takedowns? Blackjack is the way to go. Combat? Broadhead arrows are for that because you don't want to be hacked and slashed because health potions take 30 seconds to affect you
The can be aesthetic reasons to use the dagger for stealth takedowns. For instance, I used it to kill pagans in their sanctuary after reading one of the notes.
As for combat, I doubt that players in general used the bow to fight nearby guards. As for complaining that the dagger is a poor combat tool ... well, surely that's the
entire point of replacing the sword with a puny dagger!

Why did they need to die? You could've just knocked them out or let them be.

Because Chade is a murderer, not a thief.

Err ... Platinumoxicity, if I start to backstab them after reading the note, what exactly do you think I was doing before that?
ZB, if your argument is that the player shouldn't be able to choose between roleplaying an assassin or a thief, well ... I have some sympathy for that argument. I don't agree with it on balance, as the gameplay is identical in either case, but I don't strongly disagree either.

What was this note then? I don't remember any notes that made think: "omg, I need to stop the chillin' and start the killin."

Sword x Dagger, the struggle of the milennium....
I think Garrett should just learn MAC, Krav Maga and Karate (to break boxes and stuff) and drop those damn things so people stop discussing about it. (Hipocrisy)
And he should replace his bow with a TAR-21 too. And broadheads with 5.56x45mm NATO. And attach a M203 grenade launcher with water grenades, phosporous grenades, foam grenades and CS gas grenades. And change rope arrows by a grappling hook.
Oh, wait, that's Splinter Cell.
But my choice is the dagger.
