Anyone remember this old game? I can't say I played 1 and 2, but Pop3 was one of my favourite games for a long while. Had it on my derelict old lappy that I could play whenever my main PC was being used by someone else in the family :) . Anyone else played this?

I only ever played the original game on the Atari ST. I loved it, and it was basically Black & White without the creature. A bit simplistic IIRC, but still enjoyable.

My bro and I discovered the whole 'God Game' genre through Populous II, back when we were but young whippersnappers. We spent many a week on it just playing around with the God powers and summoning plagues on foes/crisping them Old Testament style with pillars of fire/making them into unwitting lightning rods/etc. Good times.
I haven't played it in, oh, 14 years. But I can still remember how excited both of us were when we realised that creating tornadoes in the ocean caused whirlpools.

Populous 3 was amazing, that's the one where you play a shaman chick right? Creating a volcano in the middle of the enemy village was awesome.

I used to play Populous on the Master System and despite writing down the passwords, never made it past this one level. Enemy knights always kicked my ass :(

Yeah I played all 3. Number 3 is the most vivid in my memory though. I don't think I finished it, despite playing it twice, because of OS re-installs. I got the expansion for it which had extra maps. Quite good fun. I'd like a remake of it as long as they keep it as simple as it was. There is a tendency to make overly complex RTSs and I wouldn't want a Supreme Commander type affair; Populous 3 was rather relaxing.

Which one was on the SNES?

I used to play Populous 1 on the sega master as well. Quite an awesome game. Got pretty damn far in it too.
Though I was a bigger fan of Powermonger which came out on the snes a few years later.

Damn that Powermonger! It looked like it would be so good but I just couldn't work it out. Didn't help that I had a non-legit copy sans instruction book probably.

Awwww, I'm tellin'!
Anyway, after some research, I deduced that it was Pop. 1 that I had. My first foray into that kind of game. Funny thing is as much as I loved it, I hated Black and White.
