So I'm thinking about buying either a 3DS or a PS Vita. Dunno why, but the urge suddenly hit me. I currently don't own any of the older portables. Not since I gave away my old DS to my cousin a couple years back, and my PSP to an old friend of mine, so I'm left with nothing at all. Well, I've got my iPad. It's alright, but I want something that offers up more of a traditional, indepth experience.
So, my choices of system and library are:
The 3DS - It's got the Zeldas and Marios. Problem is, Zelda hasn't had the same appeal to me since Twilight Princess made the series boring and easy, and the newer Mario platformers don't offer up much of any challenge. The plus side is it plays the old DS library, and there are a few DS games I missed the first time around I'd be interested in playing. But what's out for the system beyond the usual Nintendo titles?
The Vita - Off the top of my head, I'd really like to play Uncharted and Persona 4 Golden. Those two games alone push me more towards the Vita, but like the 3DS, I don't have much knowledge of any games beyond that? Are there any games worth owning besides those two?
Yeah, I know. Google is just RIGHT THE FUCK OVER THERE, and I could hit it up at any time. In fact, I already have, and have seen a few other titles that interest me for both systems. But I'd like to get everyone's opinion here. See what experiences you've all had with the two systems, and maybe get some recommendations for games I wasn't previously considering.

I had a DS but I sold it because I never played it. I think portable machines are only any good if you travel a lot and like to play when away and I never have the urge to play games on the move so I don't even play stuff on my phone much. One of the reasons is because 100% touch screen control only suits me if I'm playing certain games, like The Room or Monument Valley.
If I were going to go for one it'd probably be the Vita and then only when I get a PS4 because of the integration.

I had a Vita, and maybe it's because I'm getting old, but the 5" screen is just too small for me to play games on anymore.
So I sold the Vita and went out and bought a MS Surface Pro, and it's kickass because it's a tablet but it can play just about any PC game that's not Crysis or Metro.
Plus, emulators. And I can play Thief and TDM anywhere now.

I've got a Vita, and I love it. PS+ means loads of free games, but I mostly play the stupendously good TxK.
It's a great piece of kit and goes everywhere with me.

Brethren, I'm actually very interested in getting a Surface Pro. There are a number of things stopping me from pulling the trigger on one right this second, such as being weary of using a windowed environment on a touch/pen based device, and the promise of greatly improved integrated GPU support coming along with Broadwell chips. But the thought of a tablet that can run every Windows application and has a Cintiq quality digitizer onboard for less than $1000 is pretty damn appealing.
I know some of the pluses, but what would you say some of the drawbacks are? Like does it start feeling heavy after extended use? Is the text too small to read on a 10" 1920x1080 screen? Stuff like that.

The 3DS has a decent game library. Mine basically gathers dust now, but I think that might be more a comment on my own gaming habits than the system itself. On long trips it's great to have. The new Animal Crossing is good, as you'd expect, and I really enjoyed Mario 3D World. I guess I get a little excited when I think about playing it, but I never quite get to the point of actually picking it up any more.

Get the Vita.
I fucking hate the DS, I fucking hate the 3DS. I fucking hate the two-screen gimmick. I fucking hate that it's a pain in the fucking ass to hold.
The Vita is a proper goddamn handheld that's easy to hold and has a growing library, not to mention if you missed out on the PSP most of the good games are on PSN now.

My son has a 2DS, which is suprisingly comfortable to hold, doesnt have the 3d or a hinged screen. The virtual console library is huge, got all the old zeldas never got a chance to play like oracle of ages/seasons, Links Awakening. Still stand up, good games. The latest Fire Emblem is good too.
Plus its quite a bit cheaper than the 3DS.

I actually am thinking of getting a 2DS. I hate the hinges and I hate how clumsy the 3/DS is.

I honestly don't know!
The only "old" game I've got installed is Warhammer 40,000: Squad Command from the PSP.
Having a quick look now, it looks like while there's a PS One section on the store, there's not a PS2 one, so I would guess not.
I know there's a Metal Gear Collection for Vita, but irritatingly it's not cross-buy, so my PS3 purchase doesn't entitle me to the Vita games. Doubly irritating as the saves
are cross-play.
Bear in mind mine's a UK PSN account too, so I can't vouch for what may be on the US store.
