Right. I hadn't searched for it because the teaser looked so unprofessional that there was no doubt to me it was a joke.
(
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/135381-SteamBoy-Aims-To-Be-The-Handheld-Steam-Machine-Update) This is the closest I could get to a reputable source (the original pocketgamer story gives less detail). Even then, the elusiveness of that 'SteamBoy Machine team' coupled with the fact that the teaser looks so confident in making a connection with Valve's platform, general product design and even signature thumbpads (which I thought were proprietary) still makes me think there's nothing behind it but a concept.
Evaluating the market and fostering word-of-mouth before launching a crowdfunding campaign perhaps.

Wow, that trailer was awful - Could it be any more cliched? I thought we'd gotten past the Inception horns by now.
Anyone can put out a hype trailer, they would have been better off being more informative and giving some solid specs and facts.
I'll believe it when I see it in action.

Inception horns will never go out of style. They're cool now, and they'll be cool for all eternity.

Bringing this bitch back...
I was looking into modding my PSP 1000, just so I could play some emulators and old school games on the go when I felt like it. Then I found this thing, which looks really freaking cool:
(
http://www.jxdofficial.com/jxd-s7800b-7-inch-quad-core-game-console.html)
It's basically a 7" android tablet with a full set of controls on it. Quad Core, IPS screen. I read a whole bunch of glowing reviews on youtube, and it sounds like this thing can handle just about anything you throw at it (emulation wise) up through PS1/N64, and even some Dreamcast stuff. My tongue was hanging, out, so I decided to take the plunge and pick one up. Price is extremely reasonable too.
Full report when I get it - ordered from China, which I'm a bit leery of. They told me it would take 9-20 days to arrive.

Ooooh, that looks very nice indeed! Looking forward to hearing what you think of it.

Ditto. I want to hear more about it.

Been trying to Hack my Vita to run Homebrews on it for awhile, Just for some classic emulation, not pirating PSP games like all the guys who are doing it claim not to be doing.
But it's such a disappointment unless you managed to buy one well over a year ago before the firmware blocked all attempts to do so.
I've been thinking of making my own portable gaming system with a 5 inch screen and a raspberry pi. The thing is definitely powerful enough for some old Sega Games.

When it's all hacked and good to go, the psp's pretty damn good on the emulation side of things. I used to play Shadowrun and Super Metroid on the go, during work lunch breaks many many years ago. Was quite fun. Good speeds overall.
Funnily enough I never really delved into the piracy side of things back then. Being region free, if I wanted a game bad enough I used to just buy them cheaply off eBay.
Wasn't until emulators for the PSP on PC got good (within the last 12 months) that I started to play with those. Dungeon Maker being my favorite of the bunch to play as I used to play that on my actual psp a fair amount since it matches level design (since your the architect of your dungeon, making hallways, rooms etc in-order to attract monsters/demons to your dungeon) and action rpg stuff for when you delve into your dungeon to fight whats moved in.

(
http://www.gameplanet.co.nz/news/g556628481585e/) Sony consider Vita to be a "legacy platform", given that it's a massive flop outside of Asia.
Rich reckons the reason is timing, it was released at a time when nobody wanted to play home console AAA-style games on the move. Mobile had conquered the portable gaming market and people's habits were cemented.
