Someone actually registered a domain (valvearg.org) to dedicated to this nonsense? ROFL, a fool and his money are soon parted.
I bet the domain admin has a large collection of premium TF2 hats as well.

. . . or even that Portal 2 IS Episode 3 too.
I wish I knew where this was so I could link it, but I recall someone from Valve stating in an interview that Portal and Half-Life, though in the same universe, were going to remain separate entities (i.e., no Portal Gun in Half-Life, teaming up with Chell, etc.). If I find the interview I'll link it.

Which makes me so fucking happy because that means I don't have to play Portal ever again.
except I will since it is in the HL-verse

Ench - tho, honestly, it's Valve. They're not exactly people who always stick to their word (remember how episodic contnet was gonna come out every few months? Or how the game is not gonna be delayed? well those are more technical issues, but im sure there's some stuff story wise as well; after all, when they ended HL1, didn't they admit they basically had no idea where the story is going and just put that in cause it was "cool" ?) :p
Anyway, now that I'm done being a little prissy twat towards Subjeff, and having looked at the links, lets actually discuss the topic, aye?
Personally, I never really followed any ARGs. While they seem cool in theory, I always find them a hassle to follow or solve. I'm not a big fan of logical / puzzle / adventures games, which the ARGs pretty much are. I'm not dismissing the efforts and fun other people are taking from it, I can see the appeal cracking the encoded metadata in a JPG to see some hidden message and link it to real life glyps at the corner of your supermarket. That is actually a fucking awesome way to meet virtual and real (and not nearly enough games attempt that, imho).
As for what this means for Valve... hmm, well from all thats been gathered it seems like just an elaborate Portal 2 hype machine. So pass. Hopefully I'm wrong, tho. It's about time Valve gives some info on EP3 or, better yet, a whole new IP.

The technical stuff I'll give you. But as far as the G-man is concerned, isn't it possible that they didn't have any idea where it was going? Or maybe they just had several vague ideas and hadn't settled on any particular one yet. Besides, we really don't know much of anything about the G-man anyway. And since there's a large gap between HL1 and HL2 where Gordon is out of commission, there's plenty of room for Valve to craft a storyline even if they had no idea where it was going at the end of HL1.

This is the big issue for me. I just don't really have the time to follow these things properly. But it's a fun thing to follow all the same, and it's probably fun to participate in as well (though I imagine the possibility of ending up without a life due to devoting all of your time to an ARG is pretty high).

Possibly Portal 2, but it seems like a lot of effort just to hype something that's already widely anticipated. I want info on the next HL installment; it's way overdue. A new IP would be cool to hear about as well, but Valve really needs to get something about HL out there before announcing anything new, considering how long it's been since we've heard anything substantial.

I'd rather have them do source2/a new engine than hl2:ep3 or hl3 or whatever. I had a chat with one of the designers of the mods I help out with (dystopia and upcoming blade symphony) who works with source, udk and cryengine2/3 and he says that source is a pain in the ass. all other engines do stuff immediately or drag+drop in better quality that take hours in source.
But I guess they won't just develop the engine without any game to show off so .... more waiting or
the ARG is part of their way to start the new media onslaught. I sure do hope so.

TTLG: This Time It’s Personal. I guess he has nothing whatsoever to add to my post or this thread besides the usual kiddie-insults.
my posts do seem to get surrounded by a sea of ignore as of late.
