I thought Jensen's voice sounded forced...until I actually heard the voice actor in an interview, and discovered that the guy naturally talks like that.
As far as the characters went, i liked that for much of the game it felt like they were building up to Sarif being some sort of evil mastermind and it turned out he was a normal guy with reasonable motivations.

Haha, EXACTLY the same happened to me.
Personally, I didnt find any of the characters too interesting or memorable, I kinda felt they all just nicely fit into the typical cliches: here's the visionary Boss who will put others safety aside for overall progress, there's the angry, bitter and vindictive protagonist seeking his lost love, the typical anti-machine politician. Nothing about them really stood out, both in character and performance. Even Pritchard, who was the most quirky of them all, kind of feels like an obligatory "sarcastic character that makes fun of the player all the time while guiding him along" rather than a full-fledged person.

Nope, unless you count interest as an emotion. I was interested in the characters
I'm curious... Why did you find them interesting?

I'm glad that they didn't tie every single character trait into the plot. That, if anything, would have felt artificial.
That's not what I meant. To me, the big picture is the world, not the plot. I meant that I felt characters were mostly islands. Because of this lack of apparent connections between NPC, the world of Human Revolution didn't seem plausible to me. It was not as bad as a Bethesda game, but it was still bad. You were talking about feeling artificial? That's exactly what I think of Human Revolution's world.

I didn't feel more of an emotional connection to any of the characters in the original
Deus Ex, truth to tell.
I did with the original, not with Human Revolution.

As mentioned, more or less, the award was Best Story not Most Story. I think that's the thing.
It's funny, the sort of understated FPS narrative should be at an enourmous advantage in this sort of award, because there's a lot more to get wrong in a long involved RPG. But the generally dismal standard of game stories puts them level.
So in the contest between these two Portal 2 has a pretty big advantage that I can see. And that's if DX:HR didn't completely shit the bed in the last act.
