I know there is discussion about this in the orange box thread, but I thought it warranted its own space.
I can't get over how great this game is and most importantly, how refreshing.
The design is so elegantly done, but fiendishly clever at the same time.
There are times I replay it for the puzzles.
There are times I replay it for the atmosphere and style.
There are times I replay it just to hear GLaDoS's monologue and the turrets forgiving me for upending them.
I love the way it manages to keep that sinister edge and tension all of the way through too, which seems like a big helping of gravy on what is essentially a puzzle game.
Can't wait for seom sequel action.
And yes, the end credit song ROCKS.

I think I'm the only person on Earth who thinks Portal, while fun, is nowhere near the be-all end-all of gaming like so many other people, some of whom who never even played it, seem to think.
Yes, it's funny, hahaha, YOU CAN STOP QUOTING IT NOW

I don't know what this cake thing is all about, but I do know that when I get around to playing portal, it isn't going to be funny in the slightest thanks to all the dweebs who constantly quote it.
the cake is a lie ahahahaha
i like cheese now that's fucking hilarious

It's not really a spoiler though, and when you see it in context you'll STILL like it.
faetal on 23/11/2007 at 10:46
See, the thing is, I didn't quote from it.
Nor did I say it was the be all and end all of gaming.
There are countless games I rate more highly.
However, I found it refreshing. I've been playing countless rehashes of FPS/RTS/RPG/CRPG/ETC for quite a while, to varying effect and with varying pleasure, so it was nice to be taken by surprise by a game which came bundled with HL2:E2 - the game I actually bought the orange box for.
So many cynics - where's the love?

You're not the only one. Although I like fun puzzle games, especially ones that are refreshing like Portal, I still prefer the typical shooters where you, well, shoot stuff.

this game is a triumph,
i'm making a post here, huge success,
play it now, is my-y call to action,
valve's game called portal,
its done really well, because, it rocks,
for the go-od of all gamers,
except the ones who hate steam.
but there's no use crying over every retard,
valve just keep on producing gre-at games for us,
and the profits get made and you make a neat game,
for the people who dont hate steam.
im really happy,
i cant tell you how, happy, i am,
this game really exceeded my expectations,
and i'm really picky,
i mean it, i am, like with bioshock,
most people really love it,
but now i hope they are dead.
look at me still posting when there's gaming to do,
i heard there's new levels out i should check them too,
so i'm go-ing to go and try to play some more,
levels of po-ortal,
its a great game i'll keep playing,
it is fantastic and i'll keep playing,
when you stop playing i'll still be playing,
and when steam goes down i'll still be playing,
still playing,
still playing.

Awesome! :laff: :thumb:
Wish someone could make a real song out of it.

Biggest disappointment in Portal is not being able to portal through a portal like you could in Narbacular Drop.
Nice song Scots!
