Quick, man the stations. We've been invaded by the Doom Disappointment Brigades.
Least Doom has more than two types of enemies unlike some other recent linear corridor shooter I could name.

Yeah. Too bad that Doom 3 didn't have anything more than that.
I guess that's a bit unfair, though, since Doom's the daddy - if not the grand-daddy - of linear corridor shooters.
Doom 3 wasn't disappointing... it was just not much fun. That happened for me after I figured out that they were going to do the monster-closet-ad-infinitum approach for basically the entire game. The rest of the gameplay wasn't terribly satisfying or varied either; even the shooting didn't feel all that great (and we're talking about Doom here). So really, not much fun at all.

Yeah, a game like Halo would've benefited from enemy variety.

I actually think he meant Bioshock :joke:

I figured he meant Halo, since Bioshock clearly has more than 2 kinds of enemies.
Koki on 23/12/2007 at 08:14
Well excuuuse me, princess. Halo has 4 not counting The Flood and their color variarions.

Oops yeah I meant BioShock, although in my haste I was rudely mistaken. BioShock clearly has three enemies - the Splicers, the Big Cabbies and
COSMIC BOREDOM
a preternatural daemon that lurks behind every corner and crate, challenging you not to yawn in the face of the most uninspired and forced AAA game since Halo 1.

The Flood has colour variations? I thought they just cannibalised corpses left around.
The point isn't enemy variety. It's not the only thing that makes a game better. I'd take Bioshock over Doom 3 any day 'cause at the end of the day it's more
fun to play.
The same with Psychonauts over Warrior Within. Or Portal over Prey.

Well when I hear "linear corridor shooter" I don't think Bioshock, as it's not completely linear. I mean, it's linear in the same way System Shock 2 is, but it's not a "direct from point A to point B" thing like D3 and Halo were.

Give an example how BS isn't a linear corridor shooter. It has the same things as Doom 3 AFAIK - backtracking, central hubs, multiple paths, and optional areas.
