Every time I hear someone call this an "ARG", I want to punch a baby.

I fired up Portal to test some of these radio transmissions and to see the new ending. It took me some time to think in portals again after two years - often I catch myself and thought "Why am I running there?"...
I respect all of those cracking these codes, but also those that thought about these hiding methods. I hope when whatever is revealed, all the hidden things are clear as well; Some ideas surpass those of todays conspiracy theorists and sound like Adam West figuring out another clue from the Joker.
I haven't followed all steps closely, I mainly get the summaries - but how they get from a MD5 hash to an information (BBS number) is beyond me when thinking about the idea of a hash. But in this regard I'm with one of the steam users who thinks some Valve interns pose as fans and throw in some new 'decoded' information whenever the mob becomes unfocused...
Never the less, it's always great to watch such things unfold.

Like you've ever needed an excuse to punch a baby.

I dunno Firefreak, this sort of thing is exactly what Adam Foster did when he made his announcement that he was getting hired by Valve- I never would have guessed that the original transmission file (which was a gzip but missing a file extension) contained a type of audiofile native to Sun workstations. That particular puzzle was solved without the aid of moderators or anything. The collective intelligence (and obsession) of everyone working on this means things of this nature get decoded rather quickly. To say that Valve employees posed as community members is a bit tinfoil-hat.

Y'know what's really annoying? That after this whole whatever-the-hell-they're-hyping business blows over, Portal is still going to be stuck with these stupid radios. Years from now, people will be playing Portal for the first time, and those pointless radios will be there.
