How's the expansion? I periodically see it around, but never got around to picking it up. I enjoyed the hell out of the game itself.
It's short but sweet, also it has DB shotgun and Gravity Gun :D

It sold very well,
still has one of the best engines out there and got pretty good reviews and yet for some reason most people at TTLG hate it.
In my case, that's simply down to the game boring me. It bored me roughly one hour into the game, after the "ooh, aah!" effect of the engine and the shiny graphics had worn off, and it didn't stop boring me 'till the end. I like shooters, but
Doom 3 didn't do anything for me. It shares that category with
Far Cry, by the way, so I don't think it's a case of gamer elitism/"stupid retro shooter crap piece of shit!".
I'm still glad I picked it up, if only for
TDM.

I found it pretty dull too, I only finished it so I could see all my favourite Doom monsters in super-duper-3d-o-vision and in that area the game did not disappoint. The Cyberdemon was a sight to behold! I wouldn't say it was a bad game but definitely a mediocre one.

D3 disappointed me. Leave it to John Carmack to implement a great idea in a half-assed way. If D3 had been more like System Shock 2 like it was pretending to be, instead of this linear monster-closet imp-behind-the-door bullshit with PDAs sprinkled everywhere, I would've enjoyed it a fuck of a lot more.

Yeah, the game fell through almost from the beginning in terms of story and gameplay.
It was fun as a mindless shooter (though those monster closets got terribly trite as soon as a quarter way through). And the graphics were something to behold, after I had gotten a brand spanking new 6800 GT.

Doom 3 was mindless, which can be fun but in this case wasn't. Identical corridors were briefly illuminated by occasionally different enemies that provided a bit of diversion. I actually thought a lot of the graphical advances made in the Doom 3 engine were awesome, albeit a little bit grey-pallete'd and rubbery looking, but then I got to "Hell". And while it was pretty cool at first, I had fight a big stupid dog demon with floating protector somethings and yuck, fuck boss fights.

What the hell is wrong with boss fights all of a sudden? There have been boss fights in games for almost as long as there have been games.
Didn't you grow up with 80s/90s arcade conversions like the rest of us? ;)

Not to mention the fact that as far as they go, Doom 3's boss fight was easy.
EvaUnit02 on 23/12/2007 at 01:50
The Doom 3 battles were ok, more console-ish with them patterns and weakpoints that are only visible at a certain times. A lot better than the usual PC game boss where you "pump them with ammo until they die".
This is one aspect of console games that always been superior to PC cousins.

I had more trouble killing the mancubus enemies than the cyberdemon or the hell guardian. :erg:
