I'm getting this error in MONO when I try to optimize my whole map. Optimizing area by area seems to work fine, but doing the whole map at once gives me this, and then hangs up Dromed. Any ideas?

I haven't seen this exact one, but you might try upping the value of max_refs in your dark.cfg file and then restart Dromed and try again.

I doubled it from 14000 to 28000 and that didn't do anything.

Geeze man, how large is your mission? You also posted about having too many negative objects in your mission a few days ago!
At risk of sounding unhelpful, it's certainly starting to sound like you've breached even NewDark's limits. If that's not possibly the case (your miss has less than 8,000 of everything combined and you're inside the red lines and you don't have any overly complex/unsnapped geometry), maybe try a fresh install of T2 in a separate folder. Install the latest NewDark. Open DromEd from in the new install and try opening/optimizing your mission.
Also, I know we mission authors like to keep stuff close to the vest, but how about showing us a screenshot of your DromEd? Zoom out to "fit to region" and have your highest-numbered brush/object selected. maybe have your mono in the background, maybe we can catch an error in there.

The mission area isn't huge but there are a lot of detailed areas with stuff that's not at 90 degree angles... and of course now it's optimizing fine. Fucking Dromed.
Here's a screen anyway, with the only error type thing that I noticed in MONO:

Ah, the ol' Coplanar. Off the top of my head, that's because something isn't snapped, but I'm not 100% on that. A forum search will inform you of anything you need to look out for there.
And yeah, DromEd is a fickle beast. Sometimes just restarting your computer is enough to make it calm down.
btw, your city area is looking awesome =)

Thanks! It's coming along nicely for my first map.

I would turn on show_cell, wander around and see if you can find a bit that looks like it was made of glass and someone hit it with a vary large hammer.
It's possible the optimiser has changed its mind about how to deal with the part of the world that's causing the problem (especially likely if you've done something like changed the order of some of the brushes) but if it's moaning about coplanar stuff then you'll want to work out where it is that it doesn't like and check that everything that should be coplanar actually is, particularly if you've been building at odd angles it's very easy to get something not quite where it should be.
Errors that go away without you knowing exactly why will often come back far worse.

And make a practice of showing all and doing a complete processing at least once a day. That way these issues will show up while you still have a chance of remembering what you did that might have caused them. If you discover them weeks later, you might as well just buy some rope and hang yourself. (Not really. But it is much more difficult to find and fix later on.)
