I would love for games to be "too cheap" here as well. Also, software in general.
I'll never understand the people that think games/internet are satans tools. Though it makes sense, because at some point movies were the primary target and before that muzic and it's subliminal messaging (backwards playing and the like).
When the time comes they'll say that virtually enhanched paintball that makes it look like the second world war is trying to connect people with the devil himself.
To me, picking on everyday stuff and shouting all over the place of how right you are and how nobody else sees that, is just a way to try and grab more attention. Damn attention whores.

I highly doubt this will go anywhere but not because Britain is sensible, but because gaming has become so mainstream it would be too unpopular. Having said that anything can happen here under the current government and the fact that non-Brits can see how stupid this place is keeps me sane.

I've been making fun of England's nanny-state proclivities for years. Australia's too.
It makes me feel better about my own government. Somewhat.

Frankly, gaming companies had munchings for raising prices for PC games for a longer time, but they came to conclusion they can't afford it. If it actually It would seriously harm the market and we all would play arcades on consoles.

Financial and anti-terrorist government action aside, taxing violent video games looks pretty tame in comparison to some of the backwards laws we're having to put up with now. I won't bother listing them all, but my latest belly laugh was from Jack Straw denying the descent into a surveillance society right after it was announced that UAVs are being brought back from Afghanistan to operate in England.
Anyhow, I'm not certain whether a tax would get through but they seem to be hell-bent enough on proving that they can handle knife crime to massage the statistics. If the games industry really is recession-proof then I don't see why they wouldn't milk it for a few bucks while looking like they're actually doing something to prevent violent crime.

FAO Gordon Brown - I will agree to this if you take all the resulting revenue and plough it into disadvantaged communities.
Oh, not so hot on it now?

Or pirate their games. No game is worth 80 bucks.

Clearly, all of society's ills stem from letting poor people have things. We should stop them voting too. Come to think of it, we need to get over this fad of thinking slavery is bad - the slave trade helped make the british empire great, it can save us from the recession as well.
