The lag makes the mission unplayable for me in the railway tracks area outside the inn. Is a low res version still in the offing?

The remedy (replacing the moving locomotive with a dummy that just sits on the tracks) may not help. We tried a few things and concluded that a better video card is the best solution, due to the huge area and number of things the rendering engine has to deal with.
Thief was never intended for this kind of abuse. By pushing the envelope, I fear I've left a few players out in the cold. Be patient while I deal with it on the upcoming upgrade.

Just thought I would let you know the latest version runs fine for me on mission 3. A bit laggy in places but definitely playable. The moving train was no problem. I guess it was fixing those textures that worked for me. Thanks a bunch.

An enjoyable, nice and easy little campaign with many pleasing details. I have no lag problems at all in mission 3 (NVidia GTX 560 Ti, far from today's top beasts). The moving choo-choo is an attractive touch, even though it does behave strangely: on the long S to N track it suddenly travels underground, and when it reemerges – just before the tunnel – the machinist's head starts bizarrely go-go dancing...
Loot: are the tapestries and the jars intentionally unfrobbable in the bank safe? Just like the wine and the goblet in the final escape crate? They appear to be missing from the final loot count...

If there is a pipe above you, move away from it before mantling. Try moving left or right and try mantling from one of those positions. I'll change the dimensions for the final update.

A non-consistent error. It comes and goes. No one could figure out why the engineer's head behaves that way. He's probably suffering from scene complexity issues.

Yes, they're just decoration. Added to fix list.

I didn't have this problem.
Have you tried mantling from a crouching position rather than a standing one? That sometimes helps.
