Got up somewhere around 10:00. Vacuumed the kitchen, because it was gross. Fuckloads of laundry, dishes and stuff to do. Fortunately gf remained home and did the laundry and cleaned a bit.
13:00. Went to job practice; enjoyed biking through Turku, a lovely city and it's nice summer is slowly coming. At workI churned out coffees, eatables and teas. Finally found the first tea I actually like enough so I could buy it (Marrakech Mint, It's from Morocco [duh], a tea with mint in it that you mix some fresh mint in, seep it for 6 minutes and add sugar till it tastes awesome. It's a drink you should make after a day's work). I'm starting to nail the proper frothing for cappucinos and lattes, but still need to work on consistent quality. Realised I fucking love my job. Some friends came by and I chilled with them for a while, while serving the odd customer.
19:30. Got off work, went around the corner to a nice bar. Had Aspall Cider, listened to the regulars running their mouth. When I got home I did the dishes, made macaronicasserolle and realised I'm tired as hell.
23:07. Wrote this post.

0300 bed, 1030 up to deliver an edited sound file.
Opened all doors (temp 44 F and turned off furnace) Tied down patio covers due to high Santa Ana winds.
About 1300 fired up computer and edited some manuscripts, tuned an autoharp, 5 guitars, 2 banjos and practiced a little.
Exchanged insults on a forum or two, fed the cats (picky little bastards). Put a tray of Jalapeno poppers with Cheddar in the oven.
Watched some TV Anime while enjoying the poppers.
Popped in here to view the comments and personalities.
Basically "same shit different day" :ebil:

Introduced a friend to the many exciting wonders of Super Meat Boy. He took to it pretty much the same way everyone does.

Friday was a decently varied one:
Up at 8, shower, etc. get dressed smart cos I was off to play in a competition at 10.30, so had to be there at 10. Leave just after 9 expecting the standard 25-minute journey, but transport chaos means a rapid run/bus to another station, arrive at 10.10, just about in time. Lucky I left so ridiculously early in the first place! Play for 10 minutes to the panel with my flautist duo partner. Fair nuff. Later we discover we didn't get through to the next round. Bah!
Leave there, off to my college for a performance class at 11.30. Some Turkish girl playing Pink Floyd transcriptions on the piano. Interesting class, always gives me something to think about. I'm back to my flat after this to get lunch and change out of my suit. Catch the latest episode of Community while I'm at it.
Then back to college to meet up with a composer who's writing his first piece for guitar, so I demonstrate the various techniques and intricacies to him and his teacher. This is 2.30 - 4, then I go for a session with a guitar teacher (not my regular one), which is basically just a general chat about music and shit. He's about to retire at the end of this year, and is just generally an interesting character.
Then back to my flat, unwind for a few hours doing whatever.
Decide to go out to Camden with one of my flatmates, we almost stay on the train to Shoreditch but can't be bothered with the longer journey home so Camden it is. Pint in the Hawley Arms which is a decent enough pub, but then we move on to this bar where they're obviously (although we didn't realise at first) hosting some kind of PVC/rubber party. On the mezzanine (which is the only place the volume isn't deafening) a girl is tied to the railings with a rope. Later, another girl starts whipping her.
All of this makes my flatmate a little uncomfortable, so we leave for a more conventional pub before heading back, only to find the trains have finished and we have to get a bus! I need a piss all the way home.
I grab some terrible wings and chips from Chicken Cottage, we exchange some banter with third flatmate, and I go to bed some time after 0100.

People are actually replying. Cool. This is like peeking in windows without tripping over a brick and losing the mineral oil.

I woke up at 3 and went to dinner with my mom and grandparents at 5. Stubbed the fuck out of my toe.
Tocky on 21/3/2011 at 03:56
No wonder you stubbed your toe. It's still dark at 5. Most places won't even serve dinner till after lunch.
Did you at least keep hold of the mineral oil?

My day was anything BUT slice of life.
Background: 21 years ago, I spent the summer in Glasgow/Newark Delaware as a summer missionary for a youth group at a small church. I traveled from Arkansas and it was my first "official" ministry position anywhere, even though I was 19 and most of the kids were only a few years younger. It was a GREAT summer - nothing too heavy, or even that "spiritual" - just hanging with a great group of kids, a listening ear whilst they navigated the murky waters of pubescence, first loves, and first jobs. We kept in touch for a few years, but as we all got married, had kids and moved, we lost touch. We reconnected last year via Facebook.
This morning: Got the family up and in the car by 8am. Drove 2 hours to Bear, Delaware, where one of the "kids" (now 37) just started a church for college age people. Most of the rest of the old gang attends there. We showed up unannounced at 10 and surprised the hell out of a group of about 15 people I had literally not laid eyes on for 21 years. Spent the afternoon at one of their houses, our kids all playing together in the back yard. People dropped by all day to hang out, talk, laugh, and catch up.
One of the greatest days ever. Despite the fact that most of these folks are still in the church and I'm not, I think we all connected at the right place and time, when our lives were changing and we were making a lot of life decisions. We still have a bond and love for one another that I would never have believed was developed in a 9 week time period back in 1990. Other than a few more wrinkles and a bunch of kids, it was like no time passed at all.
Of course this never could have happened if we weren't doing this travel nursing thing - it was my hope that we would be somewhere close to this group this year. Four weeks into our first assignment and boom, it happened today.
Next big hope: TTLG meet, somewhere this year.
