Bravo, Koki! Soccer Kid was the first game I thought of, and Superfrog was the third.
Also kudos to Scots for Flashback.
I have a couple more but will have to dig for screenies first.

Any concrete suggestions for freeware remakes (or remixes) of classic jump'n'runs - and, more specifically, remakes that play well? (I don't mind them being difficult; what I do mind is unresponsive controls that make me cry for my old Competition Pro joystick.) There have already been a few, but it would be nice to have them all together in compact form.

That sounds crazy! Sounds a bit like Braid actually too (although I haven't had a chance to play Braid yet, waiting for the PC release). Gonna definitely have to check this out, and many more posted here. My 2d platformers to try list is steadily growing :D
