I grew up on Xargon, but these two still hold a dear place in my heart.
Impossible Mission, probably one of the hardest games to play as a kid, I still have memories of hating that voice
"Stay awhile, stay forever!"

.
You got a slide puzzle you had to solve at the end of every level, which gave you some historical fun fact. Anyone who knows what game I'm talking about, don't be afraid to speak up.

The is as much a puzzle game as it is a platformer, but "Imogen" on the BBC micro was always delightful, and Ovine by Design created a fabulous (
http://imogen.ovine.net/) remake a while back. You play a wizard who can transmogrify between human, cat, and monkey forms, each with a different special ability (using objects, jumping higher/further, and climbing ropes respectively). You must figure out how to solve each level, and do so in the fewest transformations possible -- you have a limit for the entire game, and you will not make it through to the end if you waste too many of them.
It's not a particularly long, difficult, or taxing game by any means, but it is a most enjoyable one, and I definitely recommend it.

Another World.
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this one.
I love the game, and have the re-release, but I didn't mention it because I don't find very fun to play anymore.

Ah, it's great, I just forgot.
