I think the h is silent and the i enlongated. so "Kai-Ten" (ai=eye)

Really? I always said it like it's more or less spelled: Chit--in.

Anyway, it is a real word (meaning the exoskeleton of an insect). I went ahead and looked it up and found out I'm terribly wrong. I believe a horizontal dash on the I makes it 'ee' so Chitin actually reads 'Keetin.'

Someone check me though. I'm terrible with accented words. (http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=chitin) Link!

BTW chitin is pronounced : ki-tin

Nope the line means its pronounced like "eye", not "ee". Theres a link to a pronunciation key just to the left of the pronunciation.

My mistake, I was thinking of an e with a line on top. And I don't know how I missed that giant, bold link to a pronunciation guide. So it's kai-tin, eh? I'll probably still say chit-in, but it's nice to know.

Hmm, if the 'h' in chitin is silent, then I think I'll mis-pronounce it 'kitten' since the idea of wearing kitten armour appeals to me. :)
