So I had this dream last night where I was with a couple of thief-fans being briefed on a compition we were about to take part in, sort of like a "midnight rogue" type of affair when it occured to me that (if this sort of thing hasn't been done yet), you guys might be able to make something of the insperation I had.
Basicaly I was thinking along the lines of having a compition in which the players would be able to compare their first playthrough of a mission with others (how much loot they could find, how sneaky they were, etc). It would mimic the experiance of going out on a "test" and having your performance evaluated by a panel of your peers. The procedure might run something as follows:
-A FM-maker would create a mission where gameplay takes precedance over story and distribute it to the competitors signed up for the contest on a given date, who will then have a fixed amount of time to complete and record it. (as short a time possible for "authentic" results)
-No forum or inter-player help would be available for the duration of the compition
-The players would have to iron-man through the mission for realism (though they may attempt it as many times as they wanted, but submit only one recording)
-Once the deadline for playing the mission has passed the community could watch the recordings and vote on the best performance in a number of categories to decide a winner.
-Afterwards the level would be availabe for everyone who didn't participate.
So does this sort of idea sound appealing to anyone? Would it be do-able? What do you guys make of this?

No very likely. I'd say a 1v1 Thief multi player tournament. Something that works and off we go. :joke:

To me, it's a fun idea but it would never work out. If I learned anything when we were playing Run Thief Run this summer is that you need other people to compete against - you need the back and forth of seeing someone's elses best score and then trying to beat it. If everyone just races against themselves and then puts up their best score it doesn't produce the same dynamic.
Then, there are other issues. Who is going to sit and watch all the footage of the playthroughs? ? I think most people probably play through the missions quite similarly, especially if they are all ghosting a mission or all playing in one specific style. It would have to be a very carefully designed mission that allows many points of entry, and with loot that is almost impossible to find. Also, you can't stop a person from looking at the mission in DromEd and finding all the loot beforehand. But I do think it's a cool idea.

The title is missing a tit.

I think it's missing an it (not a tit), if you're free to move the e around to the right spot.
I'm feeling very inspired now thanks to this thread. Inspired to ask the guys on this forum to do the Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology and to post their results. The OP, in particular. :)
