I got my Asus Xonar DX through today and I thought I'd give the EAX emulation a go with a game that uses an old EAX version, Thief Gold. I dropped a3d.dll in to the Thief Gold directory, fired the game up and according the speaker test EAX was working. After playing the game for a bit, the sound effects seemed to cut out which was pretty annoying so I tried to find a fix.
The fix was Create ALchemy Universal. Combining this with the GX mode of the Asus card and a3d.dll gave me (what I think is) fully working EAX. I'm running through the Guild sewers at the moment as a test and the reverb
seems to be in all the right places but I don't remember what everything is meant to sound like. If someone could put up a video of Thief Gold with true EAX I'd really appreciate it!
I got ALchemy Universal from here: (
