My local gaming chain gives bonuses and discounts on preorders. That's the only reason I preorder, but I also only do so when the release date is confirmed and I have a reasonable idea what the game is about.

Lol do not pre-order this game. They have just announced it and as I understand it they haven't even put together a full team. I'd say it'll be at least another 2 years before Thief 4 comes out, and remembering the how disappointing Thief 3 was I'd wait until it comes out and people have played it before purchasing.

The play.com Mar 2010 release date is just made up. GameSpot has a 2011 release date (no month or quarter specified) which is also just a guess or placeholder. If I had to guess, I would imagine Fall 2011 is a reasonable timeframe to expect, but that's also just a guess. We have to wait for EM to officially announce an expected release date, and I doubt they'll do that this year.

EM has stated they shoot for 18-24 months dev time, and they claim they've been concepting for six months, so that gives us December 2010 at the latest. Of course, with any gaming company, there's always the possibility of delays.
So that's my guess, just in time for the holiday season next year. We're be playing T4 on Xmas day. ;)
