God... this whole stupid world gonna end thing. Don't anyone fall for it. I'm sure it'll be like Y2k. Nothing will happen. Peopel jump from "oh look the mayan calander ends on december 2012" to "oh my god the world will end because a calendar ends!" Sorry, ranting....
I'm surprised gamespot and other sites are putting a release date. Gamespot usually just says "TBA" until it's announced.

I remember pre-ordering TDS. When it arrived, my pc wasn't good enough to play. Hubby had to do an emergency pc upgrade.
I remember pre-ordering TDS, and being completely pissed when it was going to cost enough money to send the steaming pile of **** back it wasn't worth the effort.

The mayans and most of the other central american cultures believed there were five ages, eash lasting exactly 5000 years, the fifth ages finishes at midnight on the 23 december 2012. The aztecs were constantly trying to stop the world from ending by sacrificing as many people as possible, and so were a lot of the other cultures as well.
It says that the world will end in fire and ice, the therory is that the magma chamber under yellowstone park will go bang and we get a nuclear winter for a few hundred years. This is the nearest event that would cause what would happen in the end of the world senario for the end of the mayan calendar, unless the aztecs sacrificed enough people to there wing serpent god to grant them a sixth age, then nothing will happen.
There's also supposed to be an asteroid passing close to the earth in that year as well, about the size of the one that supposily did in the dinosaurs. Its more likely it was grass that did in dinosaurs, or the pollen from grass, as that first appears then.

Interesting, what is your source for this information?

I've never heard the grass theory before, please give us more info as I'd like to read more about it. Since the discovery of (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicxulub_crater) Chicxulub, it's become pretty accepted that that impact was the cause, or at least the primary cause, of the Cretaceous-Tertiary extinction.

Convenient, covers all the possibilities.
Oh, on topic: Preordering is idiotic.

Never trust the retail dates. They just put some random date there so people go "ooh, these are trustworthy and get the game early, lets give them my money and pre-order!" :p
Only trust the Eidos themselves when it comes to release dates, and even then the possibility of delays are there.

I guess the bigger shops probably just add these pre-order items to their product portfolio simply based on a publisher releasing the info that the title is worked upon. I doubt that the release date or suggested price has any relation to reality though. t's just a mechanics, for the shops to get an estimate how popular the title will become. And of course a pre-order will give them a better idea on how many copies they will have to order.
I wouldn't put to much on this info though, just because you already can pre-order at amazon oder some other sites.
On the other hand, this might just give the publisher a bad idea, of releasing earlier just to get their grubby fingers on the money. :ebil:

They should give gifts to those who pre-order Thief 4. A Garrett figurine, hooded t-skirt with the logo and maybe a real set of lockpicks and a real blackjack to train thievery in real life.
