It's pretty underrated mission, imo. I just love how it plays out, it feels like a homage to Bond films; infiltrate the mechanist facility, find the friendly spy, a massive base beneath the friendly looking whitehouse and discovering the Mechanist's secret project.
I still half hop i'll see Karras in a big swivel chaior stroking a Cat and going, "Ah. Mr. Garrett. Welcome to my underground lair!"

That might be why a lot of taffers don't like it so much. I remember being shocked at how advanced the Mechanist technology was, and confused at the coal-fires that powered the sub, knowing it would need an excellent snorkel to submerge.
I do find it enjoyable to play through it, and like to visit the level on its own sometimes. It offers a hell of a lot of Thief Universe history and old and new technologies within the Thief context.

...and I recall being upset about all the archaeology being wasted on the Mechanists in the next mission. :grr:

Yeah, that too. The Mechanists were growing more and more loathsome in their utter disrespect.:nono:

Precious Cargo actually seems to invoke Jules Verne way more than Bond. Since Thief II certainly has a steampunk setting, it's actually pretty fitting/haunting to stumble across something like the Cetus Amicus, straight out of "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea". The game develops the whole anachronistic Victorian element quite well before that too, what with steam-robots and Angelwatch.

Sure!:) Although the Drilling Machine seems more battery powered. I was looking for a plug. :p

Yeh, i noticed the Jules Vern thing too.
I think that a few hundred years later the Thief world will be similar to the world in the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen series.

Precious Cargo was one of the T2 highlights in my book, along with Trail of Blood and the library incident - loved it, loved the rope climb, the noisy robot head (damn you!!!), the rain and fog, the light house, the sub, the ex-pirates - great stuff.
