Maybe it's in how you pronounce it, but "Alien Noire" sounds a lot like "LA Noire." Intentional?

Hmm, interesting... Though that NeoGAF link doesn't appear to be working; has that site suddenly died a horrible death?
EDIT: Never mind, I tried again the next day and it's now back!
In any case, if this means there's still hope then it's good enough for me. :)

They are. It's a heavily stylised font, but it's legible if you look at it right.

Haha. I stared at that stuff for some time and couldn't see what it was. But now you've said it it's completely obvious. (and should have been anyway since it's clearly a timer)

Press X to act like a schizoid space spazz? Mosey around the scene of a spaceport crime scene and hear peals of Vangelis to clue you in on a piece of evidence?
The original idea was a guy who ends up kidnapped by Prey's spaceship and deposited offworld, who then becomes a bounty hunter, so I'm guessing it's mostly an action space noir thing cut from whole pieces of Blade Runner cloth. So, basically, BAU apart from a name change.

Wow, so I guess this countdown turned out to be for a fan site. It really sucks that Prey 2 is still a game we don't know anything about. It was easily my most anticipated game, a shooter with a can't miss concept. It sounds like contractual issues were to blame for Human Head loosing the project. They wanted more time to fully realize the games potential after stronger than anticipated showings throughout 2011. Bethesda declined and now the games stuck in limbo being shopped around to top notch talent like Rebellion. What a bummer! I naively hope everything gets revolved amicably and the game makes a triumphant return in the near future.

What a monumental let-down. Unless it somehow helps the game, but I'm incredibly dubious that it could have any effect at all.

I should have just posted this in THIS thread to start with (instead of the Dishonored one). It's interesting to read back here and check out some of Digi's comments, I'm kind of guessing he knew something about this even back then:
Rumor: Prey 2 in hands of Dishonored developer(

Saw this on IGN today, for what it's worth, and didn't see it posted in the SS threads. I didn't want to make a new thread on it; someone else can if they wish, though.

Dishonored Dev Reportedly Takes Over Prey 2:“Arkane Austin are upset about this decision,” the report says,
“but higher-ups at the company are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock.”

God, Todd Vaughn has an ego the size of Russia. What a waste of something great. Human Head's game is nearly finished. It would've been out for 15 months now if Bethesda hadn't tried to buy them. The game was nearly in beta, and the achievements leaked a few months ago. (

An open-world bounty hunting game more interesting than another Shock-like title. That's been done before. I think RPS sums it up nicely.

"If, however, it's all true, then wow. Definitely didn't see any of this coming. And while I want a new System Shock just as much as any adult whose youth consisted of actively and violently fearing that Shodan was lurking in the walls of his life, Human Head's vision of Prey 2 looked like its own scuzzy, multi-eyed parkour creature. If Bethesda really did decide to put it out to pasture, consider me heartbroken."
Edit: Cool to see Prey 2's lead writer stand up for his work against the waves of droll internet badasses and litigious Bethesda. (
https://twitter.com/jasonlblair)
"This Prey 2/Arkane rumor is giving new life to a lot of old lies. I'm been quiet about this whole business but can't stay so anymore. I've worked at/with @humanheadgames for years, including different stages of Prey 2 development. I was narrative designer/writer on Prey 2 for the last six months of its development at Human Head. It was a lot more than a demo. Prey 2 was a full game. And a crazy fun one. The team was small but you wouldn't have known it. What happened to Prey 2, from where I sat, was political. And petty. And potentially litigable. Human Head had a great game. I was heartbroken when Prey 2 went into limbo. Human Head deserved to have that game released. Frankly, they needed it.
As for Arkane, I've enjoyed what I played of Dishonored. They have the chops. If the rumor is true, they'll likely do well with Prey. But I mourn that Prey 2 won't belong to Human Head. I mourn that my friends won't get recognition for what they accomplished. Instead, they get the same old "Prey 2 was never a game" and "It was just a demo" thrown around. Shameful. And completely untrue."
What scumbags!

First, I saw that article too and that quote made me laugh.
Second, that said, if any team could put aside their preconceptions and make a good game like SS3, I'd trust this one before most others.
But third, whenever you have a team that really isn't into a project but has its arm twisted anyway, that's not a great sign. And it looks like it's been in development hell already, which is another bad sign... But maybe once they get into it, they'll be able to chop off the bad parts and make it their own. Stranger things have happened.
