Hrm, I dunno.
In theory, the idea of an Arkane-developed System Shock type game is making my pants all wet, and I do like a lot of what's in the pitch documents.
And yet... I think I still prefer Human Head's initial take on bounty huntin' in space over any of these. Still seems fresher, more original, all things considered.

This.

I have to agree. Even though those documents talked about avoiding cliche, they still sounded a bit cliched. I'm sure the game will be great, because it's Arkane doing a system shock successor (as their thief successor was amazing), but why Prey 2? There is literally nothing about what they discussed there that sounds like it needs to be a sequel to Prey.

A part of me imagines an executive at Zenimax going "Oh, so you're upset because we cancelled Prey 2, well how about an Arkane-developed SS2 spiritual sequel? What now?"

I'm not too cool with them taking another IP hostage to live out their personal fantasies.

This has been covered earlier in the thread, but here's a repeat for anyone who missed it. If (
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/31/dishonored-dev-reportedly-takes-over-prey-2) rumors are true, Arkane aren't any more happy about this situation than anyone else. They're only doing it because Zenimax says they have to.

“Arkane Austin are upset about this decision,” the report says, “but higher-ups at the company are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock.”

The whole thing sounds so cynical. If I were Arkane, I'd add in some easter eggs taking the piss a bit.

It's likely Arkane Texas had little choice in the matter. They wanted to make a retro-future vampire game but Bethesda's VP of product development, Todd Vaughn, said their next project was going to be Prey 2 no matter what. Raf was fine with it, since it still took place in the future. Harvey was less keen and wanted to distance himself from Zenimax (he's heading up Dishonored 2 at Arkane Lyon).
Of course, that doesn't make it okay. What Bethesda did to Human Head is disgusting. They had a great game (look at Digital Nightfalls earlier posts in this very thread). The decision to put their work on indefinite hold was based on yet another failure to acquire an id-tech developer. Bethesda misled fans (it's just delayed to add quality), Arkane (they told them Human Head was using development funds for another project) and the press (it was just a tech demo) all of which was utter BS.
Arkane's obviously not happy as evidenced by reaching out to Kotaku, leaking internal emails and the pitch documents. Their proposal doesn't sound as strong as Human Heads. Such a shame we'll never get to play that game. :(

I recently heard rumours that Zenimax executed the same "with-hold mile-stone payments in hopes of scooping up a developer" with Arkane during Dishonoured's development. That is so disgusting.
The whole Id Software fiasco and Doom 4's torturous development leaves me shaking my head as well. Not wanting to have "Call of Doom" on your hands is definitely understandable, but I heard that they've rebooted Doom 4 AGAIN fairly recently. Really? The entirety of Id's engine programmer staff jumping ship to Occulus out protest tells a lot.

Worth noting that Bethesda did announce the DOOM Beta, which suggests the project is doing ok. Unless they've announced a beta in pre-alpha and intend to ship an unfinished game.

That would be weird, since Zenimax bought Arkane before Dishonored was even announced.
