Maybe you need to realise that Portal wasn't for you, much like most of the rest of anything good that's granted to normal human beings, and Prey without portals was pretty much Quake IV all over again but worse: just as soulless, but also minus any actually compelling gameplay.

Quake 4 and compelling gameplay, that's rich.

Hey, Quake 4 was awesome. It was like the good parts of Doom 3 and Call of Duty crammed together.
Don't be dissin' Quake 4.

used sparingly instead of trying to force them as main feature of the game.
Which is
exactly what was wrong with it. Prey did have some neat ideas but they were just weird little interludes between the shooting instead of integrated into the gameplay. They could've used the portal and gravity stuff to make some original gameplay but instead they just made another run-of-the-mill FPS.

Let's pretend I just inserted a long-ass essay here on Quake IV's pros and cons, that essentially boils down to 'good/satisfying: gunplay' and 'bad/terrible: Raven's usual workmanlike presentation and design'. I understand we disagree here, but is it an alien CoD? No. Not when it's as powerfully brown and characterless as the cold, cold surface of Mars. (To be clear, I'm talking CoD when it used to be good, so very long ago.)

You fought baddies on gravity walkways. You fought baddies on the asteroid. I'm pretty sure you could even shoot some baddies through the portals.
Whining that they should have done someting more is all cool and all, but can anyone actually come up with some ideas how were they supposed to do this? 'cause so far you're just sitting with your arms crossed all like "WELL, ENTERTAIN ME WITH THIS SPOON"
Oh and Quake 4? Unimaginative everything, boring as fuck. Couldn't even muster the strength to finish it.

Well one big thing that would have made the gravity walkways more interesting was if the enemies could actually use them. Basically if they didn't spawn on them, they would never walk onto them and vice versa. This became immediately apparent when I played a bit of multi player and had great fun chasing and being chased up walls, across the ceiling and back down again.
For the asteroids: making them more visual interesting and giving you more than a handful of the most basic enemy, who usually just stand there, to fight on them would be a start. To spice it up maybe add some low gravity, orbiting pieces of debris or neighbouring asteroids you could jump to for a better vantage point or to run away, some kind of way to enter orbit and slingshot around to get the drop on enemies or perhaps a speed boost so when you're being chased you can maybe eventually end up behind them, some fast smart enemies they make use of all of this too. Maybe these ideas are dumb but I'm just thinking of the top of my head here and I'm sure some halfway talented developer could come up with something more interesting than what Prey did with the planetoids.

Shows how unimaginative you are, really. I can think of plenty of things to do to you with a spoon. Whether or not you'll be entertained by them is up to you.
