You fought baddies on gravity walkways. You fought baddies on the asteroid. I'm pretty sure you could even shoot some baddies through the portals.
Whining that they should have done someting more is all cool and all, but can anyone actually come up with some ideas how were they supposed to do this? 'cause so far you're just sitting with your arms crossed all like "WELL, ENTERTAIN ME WITH THIS SPOON"
Oh and Quake 4? Unimaginative everything, boring as fuck. Couldn't even muster the strength to finish it.
I would bet they had some of the most amazing ideas that they couldn't implement, or had to cut, due to time constraints.
one of them being moving portals alá portal.

Why did the developers implement portals and gravity-walkways in the first place if they didn't have some cool ideas for how to use them?
I didn't think of making a game with portals and gravity-walkways so I
don't have to come up with cool ways to utilize them. I
can come up with awesome gameplay elements that have to do with clowns on pogosticks though so that's why I'm making a game that has clowns on pogosticks and when it's done it's gonna be AMAZING. Much better than Prey, that's for sure!

They did.

I am just wondering how 'visually interesting' Angel Dust envisions an asteroid to be? I mean, aren't they are rather drab and boring naturally? Maybe I missed something, but I am curious what ideas you had, 'dust.

Thinking about it, I'd rather they made Rune 2.

Thinking about it, me too.

oh u!
They did have gravity-flipping used in quite a lot of places in the game as a puzzle moment, while portals were used more as an aesthetic element.
My personal favorite in the game was the restructuring hallways near the end.

Putting aside the fact that
Prey does not actually need to be tied down to any notions of a realistic asteroid, I don't think any asteroids have terrain as flat and uninteresting as the ones in Prey did. Couldn't we have some cavernous, jagged or undulating terrain? Assuming they are used for mining, how about some more structures on them? Or giant sections (like maybe half of it) missing having been consumed for their resources?

I wouldn't mind that Ender's Game sort of gameplay you mentioned. Mix that in with a portal gun and moving portals and the like, and it'd be insane.
