Prey..... worth 5 bucks? - by lost_soul

Yeah, they could have done a lot more with the become-a-strogg concept than slapping an extra 25 hit points on you. If you accept that that will always be just a background story element, it works as a modern update of Quake 2. That's all I wanted, that's all I got. I can certainly see why some wouldn't like it.

Funny. I liked Q2 and it didn't make Q4 any less shitty.

Quake 2 is overrated. Still a decent game, just overrated.
I'm still mad that it wasn't a sequel to Quake 1.

All I will ever remember Quake 2 for is the Really Big Gun.

I went ahead and ordered Quake 4. For the time being, I'm playing the Doom 3 expansion pack.

Enjoy Quake 4. I did.

Which isn't anywhere near as bad as I'd been led to believe at the time. It's more of the same, with a hastily stolen gravity gun, but still fun.

God.
The "gravity gun" wasn't "stolen"- it was originally a tool id Software used to test their physics engine years before HL2 was released, and later was upgraded to a full gameplay element.

Just after Half-Life 2 was released. Swings and roundabouts - they clearly only implemented it in the addon because of Half-Life 2, regardless of when they invented it.

The gravity thing isn't as flexible/useful as one would expect though. Many things are just nailed down and you can't move them at all. Then again, after playing the Penumbra series, nothing else compares in terms of in-game, believable physics.
I noticed in Penumbra that the more objects you place into a desk compartment, the heavier it gets (and the harder it is to open/close it). I also tried jamming boards under leaver-operated machinery to keep them running while I did other things. You can also jam a board in a desk compartment (so that it hangs at an angle and then hang a bucket from it by the handle. Also, try building a catapult with random objects that you find in the game. (not specifically where the developers force you to do this)
