Prey..... worth 5 bucks? - by lost_soul

I played Prey back then. It didn't stick in my mind as something spectacular, or something that I absolutely would like to play again, but then it was still quite nice to play and definitely much better then D3 or Q4 to my mind.
The storyline and gameplay was much more interesting presented than Q4, so I for 5$ its definitely worth playing. A simple, straightforward shooter, with the additonal bonus of the portals.

About the only thing I remember from Prey was the bit at the end of the demo that looked like one of those splash screens you'd see at the end of the shareware episode if you weren't playing the full game.

The thing that sticks most in my mind when I think of prey is "dying a fuckton of times". I kinda got the impression that, having given you a get out of jail free card death/resurrection system, they didn't really worry too much about how fatal any given section might be.
"Here, walk along this cool gravity loop thing, upside down! Careful though, if you move too fast, or jump, you'll fall the fuck off, and pummet to your death. So go slow but steady."
"....Oh yes, and here's ton of angry snipers. Good luck with that!"
Which is a shame, because it contains a hell of a lot of really clever stuff, and some of the organic weaponry is great (explosive spiders! Rip their legs off and the body becomes a grenade!).
(of course, I could simply be shit at shooters)

I often get Prey mixed up with Daikaitana; I only got as far as the demo of both and thought fondly of neither.

Nah I found the exact same thing - some of the later enemies seemed to be designed so that you pretty much had to die at least once while whittling them down.
The first half was much better because of this.

While playing Prey, I've noticed that Tommy's grandfather sounds like Joseph Manderly. :)
