Getting down to brass tacks, it's basically the psychology of it: combat works because there's the
risk of death to it.
Can't say that's true for me personally ... but I understand the point.

The game has already been out just shy of a week now, and I haven't heard a thing about it. Has anyone played it yet?

I've heard lots of people falling over themselves to praise the ending; they also seem to agree that the game's difficulty is pretty much non-existent - not because of Elisha (is that her name?) so much as because of the level design. If you enjoyed Sands of Time because of the challenge it posed, you'll probably not like the new game; if you enjoyed the earlier games for the story and atmosphere, you might want to give the new Prince of Persia a chance... and if you liked Okami and ICO, you should almost definitely play the game.
At least that's what I gather from threads on the game and from user reviews.

ubisoft figured with this being no game at all not even pirates will get it and removed the DRM ;) played it 3 hours. stopped. not gonna start again. glad i didnt buy it.
this game is beautiful to look at.
end of review.
- and now for the old farts:
this is no game. it's dragon's lair. QTE orgasm.
combat is much worse than in the SOT series.
gameplay and leveldesign progression is non-existant. you play the 1st level over and over again. and even after you beat the level you have to play it AGAIN. it doesn't even have the ridiculous speedfeeling of mirrors edge or the repetetive fanatism of pacman. it's just bland and going for safe. no lows, no highs. just a long boring stretch of colors and animations without any gravity behind it. I can't even start how plastic and lifeless this game is.
and the new prince is such an wisecracking unsympathetic dormant sexist idiot it aint funny. who wants this guy to have around ? he's the one driving home alone in his cabriolet after school. the prick that only showed affection and care for the most beautiful girls crossing his fingers behind his back. and since this is supposed to be a magical, adventurous setting, where does he get his 21st - century shitjokes from ? elika in no way replaces the SOT, she DOES get in the way and you have no control over her character besides the "elika" button. Assassin's Creed is HARDCORE against this. every step this game took, it failed more for me. but then again, there are ppl judging a game PURELY by its visuals, so this should get astronomic ratings. just don't get fooled you are buying a "game" like in "platformer" or "experience". it's more of an "watcherience". boss-encounters: boring, you don't even get the joy of killing/winning, no the guy just "disappears" so you can fight him 5 times more. (no joke)
all kinds of fail. play it for pretty screenshots.

Beautiful graphics wth? It isn't nearly as pretty as Psychonauts.
mothra on 15/12/2008 at 13:57
they're both pretty. psychonauts is inspired and passionate. that's what makes it better and gives it more "value" than NewAge-POP. I like the look and style. but of course the designers and artists of Psychonauts made just much, much more with the toolset they were given. POP's levels are just bland to play but beautiful to look at. psychonauts gave me all kinds of different feelings, not just the "look, his shawl is floating so nice in the wind.....I hope elika kisses him soon....(hit screenshot)"

Damn. I guess I'll be throwing this one on the "games I should've loved, but ended up boring me to death because they were far too easy" pile alongside Phantom Hourglass.
I'll wait for it to hit the bargain bins, then buy it for the art.

This new Prince is apparently voiced by the same guy whom did Nathan Drake from Uncharted. Reportedly it's the same performance too.

I posted this in my "What are you playing" thread, as I forgot this thread existed. Thanks for reporting the news in a more relevant thread.
